Fans Can’t Believe ‘Jeopardy!’ Allowed Halley Ryherd On Show?

Jeopardy! Season 38 has had its share of controversial moments. However, fans are upset that the quiz show allowed Halley Ryherd on the show. The contestant shocked fans with her terrible response to a rap clue. It took place during the Wednesday, June 29 episode.

Some claim it’s “the worst mistake they’ve ever seen,”, especially in a season that’s been filled with ups and downs. Actress Mayim Bialik has been hosting the show while champ Ken Jennings is still on a hiatus. He should return sometime in July 2022.

Who is Halley Ryherd?

This week, Halley Ryherd made a memorable moment on the game show. The Iowa-based real estate attorney won $5,900. On Wednesday’s episode of Jeopardy!, Halley beat out returning champ Pete Chattrabhuti. Yet, she had fans scratching their heads.

She made a mistake that gave them second-hand embarrassment. During the regular Jeopardy! round, Halley fell on a clue for $600.

“In the 1990s, Chuck D began fighting the power in this hip-hop group with Flavor Flav, a man who always knew what time it was,” Mayim Bialik said.

Halley buzzed in with a smile and said, “What is the Funky Bunch?” The correct answer to this clue was, “What is Public Enemy?” Jeopardy! fans cringed over Halley’s puzzling blunder. Most of them took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

• “I’ve never been angrier at a @Jeopardy answer in my life!”
• “She should credit for being the most wrong she could possibly be.”

As you can see, Halley’s response made some Jeopardy! fans upset. Some wondered how she could get iconic rapper Chuck D confused with Mark “Marky Mark” Wahlberg. One fan called it the “whitest answer ever.” Despite, Halley’s massive mistake, she ended up becoming a returning champion.

Jeopardy! fans weren’t impressed with Halley, even if she won that game. During Final Jeopardy!, all three contestants were stumped. No one got the answer correct. The “close game” ended as Pete Chattrabhuti overbet and Lauryl Tucker tried to beat him. But, they never got the clue about Sesame Street, which had viewers baffled once again.

Halley ended up winning the episode. She only walked away with a total of $5,999. In her Q&A segment, she shared that she cross-stitches “tiny masterpieces.” Yet, she fell short when it came to mixing up Public Enemy with the Funky Bunch.
