Netflix announces Squid Game: The Challenge
In the official press release, Netflix said they would be bringing Squid Game to life in the form of the “biggest reality competition series ever.” The first season of this reality TV series is slated to be 10 episodes long. Production studios behind Netflix’s The Circle and A&E’s 24 Hours are responsible for filming and production of this new series. Hwang Dong-hyuk, the director of Squid Game, is also on board for the new series.
Brandon Riegg, Netflix VP of Unscripted and Documentary Series, says Netflix is “grateful” to have the opportunity to turn Squid Game into a huge social experiment.
The following is an excerpt from the original press release detailing what fans can expect from the series:
With both the largest cast and lump sum cash prize in reality TV history, 456 real players will enter the game in pursuit of a life-changing reward of $4.56 million. As they compete through a series of games inspired by the original show – plus surprising new additions – their strategies, alliances, and character will be put to the test while competitors are eliminated around them. The stakes are high, but in this game the worst fate is going home empty-handed.
Casting for new series begins
Casting for Season 1 of the new reality TV series is now underway for the 456 competitors. Anyone interested in trying out for the series can head over to SquidGameCasting.com to learn more. The show is casting from all parts of the world with the only big condition being that the competitors must speak English. Sadly, it is unclear when this series will premiere. Being in such early stages of production, it will likely be a little while before this series hits Netflix.
