Netflix has been making a plethora of nerdy announcements this week. From the brand-new Castlevania sequel series to a Junji Ito horror anime. It’s truly a special week for all of the geeky Netflix subscribers. And it’s been made that much more special with the inclusion of an exciting new trailer. The trailer for a video game franchise that has been lying dormant in recent years. The Dragon Age franchise.

The trailer came out recently on YouTube and other Netflix social media accounts. It has the entire fanbase buzzing with theories and commentary.

The name of the show is Dragon Age: Absolution. There is no cast reveal yet, but we do have plenty of other details. It’s only going to be 6 episodes long. The length of each episode is unknown, but likely they’ll be 45-60 minute episodes. In 6 episodes, that would do a decent job establishing a story and characters that they’ll hopefully build more upon in later seasons. The release date is also extremely soon. December of this year. Many of the announcements from this week have no release date set at all. Or they’re vague, like “2023”. So to get such a specific and nearby release date for this show is big news.

The show is also working very closely with Bioware to make Absolution highly accurate to Dragon Age lore. Bioware, of course, are the developers of all of the main series Dragon Age games. The franchise has been quiet since the release of Dragon Age: Inquisition in 2014. It was the most successful game the franchise has seen thus far. So fans are happy to finally get some new content set in their favorite world.

It’s said to take place in Tevinter, an empire within the Dragon Age universe. They want the show to be entirely accurate to the lore of the games.

The Geekiest Week In Netflix

Netflix has put out announcements for so much exciting content this week. It’s really the PR boost the company needed. Recently, a lot of bad news has been tarnishing their previously positive name all over social media. Raising their costs, slashing their animation department, and talk of removing password sharing has made their image rough. That’s to say the least.

Following that up with a slew of exciting announcements helps to alleviate these troubles. But it doesn’t downright fix the problem. If Netflix is truly cutting back on everything, then this may be the last time we get this many exciting trailers from the company. That’d be sad, indeed.

Dragon Age: Absolution is coming out this December on Netflix.
