GH fans get surprise Michael recast

General Hospital fans tuning in earlier this week were in for a surprise. A new actor was playing Michael Corinthos instead of Chad Duell.

Chad Duell joined the ABC soap in 2010 in the role of Michael Corinthos. A series of child actors previously played the role.

Michael is the offspring of A.J. Quartermaine (last played by Billy Warlock) and Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright.) However, he was later adopted by Carly’s sometimes-husband, mobster Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard.)

So, fans are used to seeing Duell in the role. But this week, another soap alum is in his place. The Young & The Restless alum Robert Adamson (ex-Noah Newman) will be temporarily playing Michael Corinthos.

Recasts – temporary or permanent – are usually announced ahead of time. However, ABC chose to keep the Michael recast under wraps for some reason. As a result, fans took to social media to express their surprise at the temporary fill-in.

“You could’ve given us a heads-up,” one GH fan tweeted. While fans were taken aback, the overall reception of Adamson in the role was positive.

Does that mean Chad Duell won’t be back?

He took to his social media to explain the reason for the recast. According to Duell, it was necessary due to the coronavirus. His temporary exit “was COVID related,” he said on social media.

SoapOperaNews.net shared Duell’s statement about his temporary exit. The actor let fans know that his absence will be short. In fact, he said he’s back filming “next week.”

He also had praise for his fellow actor. “Robert did great,” Duell said.

As for his own health, he said that he is feeling good.

If he’s back filming next week, GH fans will likely continue to see Robert Adamson through the rest of June and possibly part of July. The ABC soap reportedly films one month in advance of what airs onscreen.
