John Madden is about to be seen all over the gamer-sphere. The late football coach is receiving an honor that has not been bestowed on him in over two decades. So what exactly is it? You’re about to find out.

John Madden’s Legendary Career

When many hear the name “Madden,” they immediately think of the NFL video game. Behind it is the amazing John Madden who was both a legendary coach and commentator. He coached the Oakland Raiders for ten years leading them to a Super Bowl win, per ESPN. At just forty-two, he left the coaching game for broadcasting. Viewers loved watching his take on the game and the spunk he infused. Eventually, his exuberance led him to be an amazing brand representative for restaurants, beer, and even hardware stores. His legacy was about to be cemented in the EA Sports game Madden NFL Football.

The game first debuted in 1999 and instantly became a fan favorite. When he passed in 2021 at 85, EA Sports had this to say: “Today, we lost a hero. John Madden was synonymous with the sport of football for more than 50 years. His knowledge of the game was second only to his love for it, and his appreciation for everyone that stepped on the gridiron. A humble champion, a willing teacher, and forever a coach. Our hearts and sympathies go out to John’s family, friends, and millions of fans. He will be greatly missed, always remembered, and never forgotten.” Now the brand is honoring Madden in the most spectacular way possible.

Cover Model

Back in 2000, John Madden was on the cover of the game of his namesake. Since then, he has just carried the crown. Now, twenty-three years later, Madden is back again. It was just revealed that he will be on the cover of all three editions of this year’s game, according to ESPN. “We were thinking about this year’s game and who was going to go on it; it almost became an obvious answer. I say that because we really wanted to celebrate Coach in the product this year and what he’s meant to us for the 30-plus years that we’ve been using his name in our game,” the executive producer of Madden NFL Seann Graddy shared.

Now, Madden did appear in a smaller section of the game but after 2006, he was gone. Now, it seems to be the perfect time to bring such a legacy back and fans are going wild. Many are hoping that it will live up to its namesake after all of these years. It truly is a beautiful tribute.
