‘Unexpected’ Season 5 Finale Recap- May 29
Last week on Unexpected, Jenna realized that her relationship with Aden needed to be over. He barely participated in the family vacation and it was just causing her more stress. Lilly and Lawrence started to talk about a wedding budget but she has very expensive taste. Finally, Taylor’s boyfriend Noah tested positive for Covid so they were unsure how it would work with her being induced. She was fine until she got to the hospital and discovered she was positive, as well. Now she must deliver this baby under less than desirable circumstances.
Jason And Kylen Return To Unexpected
After getting removed from the hospital for poor behavior, Jason was able to watch his son’s birth. Yet the couple was not on last week. Now, a shirtless Jason is raging against the hospital as they leave. He clearly hates that place that they just spent forty-eight hours in after Xavier was born. A security guard sat outside the room the entire time and they feel it was due to what happened during the birth. Kylen says that behavior is not who they really are and Jason notes it was because of the epidural. It just pushed him beyond a certain point as he felt betrayed and heartbroken. She wants to forget about that now that it is about their son, not them.
Jason claims he drove like an adult when he had their son in the car. The moment they get home to Jason’s parents’ house, he is getting the car seat out of the car. He immediately starts getting mad at Kylen, claiming she is on it so that is the issue. In his parents’ confessional, they claim that they thought birth was a happy thing. His mom tries to say car seats are tricky but they need to stop pacifying him. He is still in a bad mood but they help Kylen inside.
Taylor’s Covid Delivery, Lilly’s Wedding Plans
She has gotten her Pitocin three hours after arriving at the hospital and wants it to happen fast. Taylor is mostly concerned about her symptoms getting worse. Plus, she wants the epidural in time so she is making sure that the nurses will be checking her as much as possible. Noah was not there for the birth of their first child and luckily, he can be there this time so he is asking a lot of questions. Her mother, Candice hates that she cannot be there but is hopeful Noah will step up and be the best support. Noah is watching Taylor in labor and he notes that could never be him at all. He also knows how hard Covid was for him so adding labor to that would be a mess.
Lilly and Lawrence are at a wedding venue that her sister found. The family has gathered so they can tour the grounds. Lilly knows her mother will be brutally honest about how it looks. Hopefully, she will love it and financially help to make it happen. Lawrence has actually never been to a wedding so he does not even know what vows are. Lilly questions if they can have an open bar since she is not twenty-one yet and then they sit at the sweetheart table just for them. Lilly’s mom is trepidatious but she wants to be optimistic at the same time.
It Is Not Unexpected To Be In Pain
Tiarra and Tyra are celebrating Ella’s third birthday. Though Tiarra wishes Taylor could have been there with her daughter, she did not want to feel obligated to forgive her cousin. At the same time, Taylor is ready for her epidural after two hours. Though she knows contractions are painful, it is still absolutely horrible. Tiarra’s mom wishes her a good delivery to the camera but she hates the drama that has ensued. Over with Jason and Kylen, he is rocking Xavier when she comes up and wants to hold the baby. He says “no” and talks to the confessional about still being mad over the epidural. Yet he is grateful to have their baby home and safe. He says mommy only gets a turn when the baby is crying at night then he forces Xavier to eat.
Kylen says he has been throwing up a lot so he should not do that. Jason then calls his mom into the room and she tells him he needs to have money in order to buy the formula. Kylen tells explains using the canned formula is cheaper and his mom encourages them to go on WIC, which will help out some. He snaps and asks if she is going to get the formula so she wants his card for it, reminding him that it is expensive and goes fast. Jason’s dad admits their relationship with him is very volatile and they are exhausted by it. As Jason is holding Xavier, Kylen is begging to hold him.
Gimme Gimme Gimme
Jason will not hand over Xavier but he keeps demanding things of Kylen. He wants a new shirt or a swaddle because they smell gross. She tells him they do not have any clean ones so she walks away. Kylen admits it’s stressful to be teen parents and they take it out on each other. Jason says he has major trust issues because they had a birth plan. Then she did not include him in any decision that she made. He said he will never forgive or forget that as he almost did not see the birth of his baby. She tries to remind him they went over this but he can’t stop so she de-mics and says she is done. Kylen gets up and walks away while Jason just waves goodbye. He announces, “I’m free ladies.”
It is still Ella’s birthday party when Alex and his mother arrive which shocks Tiarra. Tyra admits she has no idea the status of her relationship with Alex. She claims she goes to school and takes care of her baby. Tyra’s mom questions the paternity of his new baby but they just let him be even though he keeps to himself. He literally hides under his coat as Tyra claims he is cold. In their confessional, Alex tells her how much he loves her and that he messed up. Her sister and mother don’t believe him at all but Tyra openly admits that she does not care what anyone in her family has to say.
An Unexpected Wedding Surprise
Lilly and Lawrence get the numbers for the venue they like and it’s only fifteen grand. They expected it to be a lot higher for all of the amenities. Then her mother starts talking to her and suddenly Lilly begins to question it all. She equates it to moving or death and now Lilly is scared. Lilly says her mother and grandma always made her scared of getting married which is sad. They ask Lawrence’s mom how it feels to be the mother of the groom. At first, she was really ready but now she feels they are too young. Lilly and Lawrence do agree that they have to wait to plan and organize. She tells him that he has to cry even though she did not when he proposed.
Taylor is still in labor after almost twelve hours. She made it to seven and a half centimeters without an epidural so this is an amazing feat for her. Then it was epidural time and two and a half hours later, it was time to push. Cameras were not there during the official delivery. Soon enough, baby girl Aria was on Taylor’s chest at eight pounds, ten ounces. Aria Gabrielle Whittinghill was born on October 22nd without Covid so that was a huge relief. She does wish that Tiarra would forgive her now that they both have kids at the same age.
Next week, it is time for the tell-all. The girls check in with Kylen as she still tries to defend her relationship with Jason. He gets sassy with the cast and Erica comes for Shannon. Matt compares Aden to Jason which makes Jenna not so happy. Finally, Jason walks off after getting tired of people coming at him. Unexpected airs Sundays on TLC.
