‘When Calls The Heart’: Everything About Lucas & Elizabeth’s Engagement
In the When Calls The Heart Season 9 finale, “Rock, A Bye, Baby,” Lucas proposed to Elizabeth! They are officially engaged.
Since that magical moment, Hearties have been talking about nothing else! That is, except for Hallmark renewing for Season 10.

When Calls The Heart Scene Took A Long Time To Film
ET’s Deidre Behar spoke to Erin Krakow and Chris McNally about their magical scene. First, Erin Krakow shared that it took a “really long time” to film this very important When Calls The Heart scene.
Erin, Chris, and showrunner John Tinker spent a lot of time discussing how they would film this very important scene.
Part of the reason was that they knew this was a big deal. They also wanted everything to look autumnal and beautiful. But, also because someone was fascinated with puddles, and they would float leaves in those very puddles.
Although Chris quickly took the blame for this, they all laughed. Adorable Hyland Goodrich was being a toddler and he had a lot of fun with all of the natural elements.

When Calls The Heart Engagement Thinks Of Little Jack First
Next, Deidre asked about Lucas Bouchard’s love of “razzle-dazzle.” This engagement was very personal and intimate for the Hope Valley saloon owner. McNally shared that this was part of his character’s journey.
The other part was how Lucas started the proposal by talking about Little Jack first.
I think that it’s a priority that little Jack is taken care of and has a father figure. And of course, both being a husband and a father are important things, but I feel that John wanted to lay down that Lucas is very, very serious about being a role model and a father figure to Jack, so that’s why it was prioritized.
Erin Krakow was very happy with how this was unique and different from her first onscreen proposal on the Hallmark series. Elizabeth is in a different place in her life. Therefore, this proposal needs to be focused on her current life as a mother.
I think John and our writers did a really beautiful job creating a proposal that felt unique to this couple and this young family and quite frankly, different from the Jack and Elizabeth proposal, which was over the top in that way. I thought that the way it was handled was really understated and spoke to the more mature connection that these two people have together, and I was really happy with it.
As for the twirl, that was all Chris McNally! He thought this was a moment that deserved a special twirl.
What Do We Know About Elizabeth’s Engagement Ring?
The engagement ring was also a big part of the When Calls The Heart episode. Chris McNally and Erin Krakow had spent some time figuring out the sort of ring that Lucas would give Elizabeth.
Chris explained, “We were all on the same page. We all wanted something that was elegant and classy and kind of timeless, something that represented things that Lucas holds dear, and something that would suit Elizabeth as well, and it came together.”
Nickname ‘Buddy’ Important
Deidre Behar commented on how much she loves how Little Jack calls Lucas “buddy.” Chris McNally explained that this nickname is significant.
Director Peter DeLuise had used the word “buddy” as a term of endearment with his grandfather. Erin also shared that they heard Chris call Hyland “buddy” and next thing you know, it was in the script!
Is When Calls The Heart Renewed For Season 10?
Hallmark has not yet announced whether When Calls The Heart will be back for Season 10.
