‘The Bachelor’ Paid HOW MUCH To Film In Texas?
How much did ABC shell out for the reality show The Bachelor to film in Texas? The answer may surprise fans of the dating competition. Keep reading for all the details.
Season 26 featured Houston Oilers players
Cameo appearances from famous people are common on ABC’s reality show The Bachelor. Each season often hosts a ‘private concert’ for the lead and the woman of his choice. The couple is serenaded by up-and-coming or well-established musical acts.
However, celebrities pop up throughout the season, too. Actress Hilary Duff appeared on Season 26 ahead of Hulu’s How I Met Your Father reboot.
At one point in the season, Clayton Echard and his leading ladies descended on Houston, Texas, for two episodes.
During one outing, the women took over the city’s NRG Stadium for a not-so-friendly game of football. Two team members of the Houston Texans, Jonathan Greenard & Kamu Grugier-Hill, appeared as coaches. Long-time sportscaster Hannah Storm joined former NFL player and Bachelor host Jesse Palmer to offer commentary.
Fans of the reality show may be surprised by how The Bachelor came to film in Texas.
The Bachelor spent HOW MUCH to film in Texas?
The Bachelor has a long history of filming parts of the season on location. Before the COVID pandemic, the show was filmed in exotic locations around the world.
However, the last few seasons of The Bachelorette and Season 25 of The Bachelor were filmed in a ‘bubble’ at resorts in the U.S. Clayton Echard’s season was the first to resume filming in other locations.
And the show chose Houston, Texas, as one place to visit. A report from the ABC affiliate in Houston, KTRK, reveals that the show initially eyed filming in Texas in 2018 but ultimately didn’t at that time.
But they did in 2021, with sources citing Houston re-opening earlier than other parts of the country as the main reason.
The investigative report further reveals that the city of Houston, Texas, $240,000 to let The Bachelor film there. The money came from the Houston First Corporation, which distributes tax dollars used in marketing for Houston.
According to the corporation’s chief marketing officer Holly Clapham-Rosenow, that was a steal. Clapham-Rosenow told reporters that the show was only there to film one episode but ended up featuring Houston in two episodes.
The reporters also spoke to taxpayers who were less than pleased by the price tag. “That’s a lot of money just to make a show here, but I know they made another show here as well,” the taxpayer said.
What other show? It turns out that Bravo’s Top Chef also paid a hefty sum to film their current season in Houston. The exact number isn’t public information.

You have this backward…the cities pay the show to have them appear, not the other way around. It’s a huge promotional opportunity to have your city featured on a national show, so tourism boards will fork over big bucks for this. However for the celebrity appearances of the players/coaches, that’s another situation and I’m sure the show paid for that.
