‘Unexpected’: Why Booting Jason Korpi Could Be More Dangerous
Unexpected fans have had enough of Jason Korpi. They despise the way he treats his girlfriend, Kylen Smith, and his manipulative ways. There is even a petition to get him removed from the show. Yet would his leaving cause more harm than good?
Unexpected Fans Want Jason Out
Every week, Jason further proves why he should be removed from the series. He was introduced at the beginning of Season 5 alongside his teenage girlfriend, Kylen. They were expecting their first child together but Jason seemingly thought he knew what was best for both of them. Due to his own insecurities, he wanted her to have a home birth. This was a major red flag for viewers because Kylen expressed her desire for a hospital birth. He also would rather spend time with his friends than let Kylen be with her family. Jason claimed they treated her like a child but she said it was normal for people to see their parents.
When the midwives said it was time for her to go to the hospital, he still did not feel Kylen was far enough along to warrant this. She said she would get there regardless. He was also against an epidural believing the baby would be hooked on drugs. Viewers have grown tired of his controlling behavior saying it is bordering on abusive. At this point, they have called on TLC to get rid of Jason because he has just become too much. It does not help that he recently was arrested with eleven pending charges. However, is it better if Jason stays put on the series?
Safer On Television?
Yes, fans of the series have many valid reasons to want Jason off of the show. Yet there is one possible reason he should stay- Kylen’s safety. With cameras around constantly, she is somewhat safer than she is when there is no one following her. One viewer had this to say: “I’m afraid if they kick him off the show though, it will get worse. He will make her leave & then who knows what will happen.” This followed a shortlist of horrible things Jason had done to endanger Kylen while she was in labor. They do make a point and a valid one. Many who signed the petition solely did it based on the fact they are tired of witnessing abuse.
What started as an attempt to get one thousand signatures for the removal of Jason has surpassed the initial goal. A new goal of fifteen hundred signatures has been set. Followers believe he is “toxic,” “abusive,” and needs a lot of “counseling.” Unfortunately, if the teen dad feels comfortable exhibiting such behavior in front of the cameras, what is he like off-camera? Maybe Kylen is better off with production there because how far can Jason truly go? That is yet to be seen.
Do you think it is better to keep Jason around for Kylen’s safety or does it really matter? Let us know and watch Unexpected Sundays on TLC.

Yes this guy needs to be gone! He is endangering the lives of both his girlfriend and the baby. There’s no telling what is is doing off camera. He is not to be trusted. He is arrogant and self serving, every decision that he makes is about him and his comfort level. I am appalled at his behavior. He is such a know it all. When in reality he knows nothing!
Why are you promoting spousal abuse on tv. This Jason kid should be arrested for domestic violence. It’s sending a message that it’s ok. I hope she doesn’t give that baby his last name. Are you crazy it’s saying it’s ok for a man to verbally abuse her. He completely controls her and that is a sign of domestic violence. He doesn’t even let her see her parents. I just can’t believe this. I bet we read later that he beats the hell out of her. Then something will be done.Shame on you TLC
The warning before this episode began is appropriate. Viewers are seeing a young girl in labor as the father of the baby is verbally and emotionally abusing the laboring mother to be. Obviously I am speaking about Jason and Kaylen. Jason actually told Kaylen while still at the birthing center that she needs to push the baby out. For some reason Kaylen is not allowing checks to determine dilation and cervical effacement. Pushing before the cervix are fully effaced and 10 cm dilated is not wise. Suggesting that Kaylen push as though she has the choice to push out the baby whenever she wants is a sign of being uninformed about the birth process that Jason is trying to dictate. Birth plans change based on real circumstances. Jason was not providing the support that Kaylen needed but was actually continuing to abuse Kaylen verbally. He was removed from the room because of it. He said in the hallway that Kaylen needed to leave with him. Since Jason believes he knows the drugs in an epidural (drug addict) and the negative consequences one would think he would also know that Kaylen is unable to walk if the epidural is doing what is intended. He is expresses disappointment while in the car about not seeing his son born and places the blame fully on Kaylen. She was actually asking that he be allowed to stay despite his abuse. Jason is concerned about his baby and Kaylen but the way he demonstrates it is indescribably inappropriate and without words to explain other than dangerously abusive. Kaylen has not experienced this behavior in her life before Jason so she has fallen victim to his manipulation. She is under his manipulation but she knows in her gut that it is not right. Kaylen, you have an infant to think about and you know that it is not healthy or safe to expose him to abuse. Be open to therapy. Jason…try to be open to getting some help before you escalate to physically harming Kaylen or the baby. I know this is difficult to accept but just because you are 18 doesn’t mean that you are all knowing. You live with your parents, Jason. Prove that you can support the family you have created by taking the responsibility for your own survival needs. Kaylen, don’t jump to move in with Jason as he has yet to demonstrate that he can take care of himself say anything about you and a baby. Don’t fall for his manipulation. All the best to you both as well your helpless infant.
Please take him off the show. I feel sorry for his girlfriend because she doesn’t have the guts to stand up to him but I feel like it’s giving girls like her the ok to tolerate this type of behavior from abusive guys ! This is so wrong! Please take him off the show.
I’d like to know where this little punk went to college since he learned and knows more about labor and delivery than every doctor and nurse that studied for years and has delivered countless babies. Every single thing he said was completely absurd and wrong. He was right about one thing, women were having babies in the old days without epidurals, one thing Mr. KNOW IT ALL forgot to say or really just doesn’t know is that a lot of women died during childbirth as well. I’d love to see how long this little boy could go through contractions. Not the little first 5 hours of labor either, I mean the full blown last 10 to 24 hours of hard labor, 2 to 3 minutes apart that Kylen endured. Maybe the show could set that up for all the fans to get to see. From what I’ve seen the men that they put these machines on come out with a whole new perspective of labor and childbirth, despite the fact that they never turn the contractions very high and they know it will end soon rather than maybe go on for24 hours. Yeah, I think Jason should have to sign a contract that he will go for at least 5 hours.
The whole reason I started the petition is because I cannot stand to know that he’s getting paid around $1,000 or more an episode so basically TLC is paying him to abuse her. Yes he’s going to do it regardless and it could be worse without the cameras but the cameras are not going to be there much longer and then what? Then he gets residuals and the fact that you paid him money to to be an abusive prick. So for him it’s a win-win if you remove him he will not get any more money going forward
