Dancing With The Stars fans want to know if Derek Hough will return to the ballroom this fall

Derek Hough made history as the first pro dancer to win six Mirrorball Trophies on Dancing With The Stars. And now, he’s a judge on the show. There’s a lot going on behind the scenes at Dancing With The Stars and producers are trying to navigate the uncharted waters.

So what exactly did Derek Hough think when he heard the news about the shakeups?

“At first, I was like, ‘Wha? What does that mean?!’ But within 10 seconds, I was very, very excited about it,” Derek told ET. “I think that’s where a lot of things are moving toward.”

It’s definitely going to be different, but Derek seems pretty unphased about the changes.

“Dancing With The Stars has always been a trailblazer, they’ve always been the first to do things,” the judge continued. “So to move into this area is very bold, very brave, and I’m very excited about it, to be a part of that new phase in television!”

Derek also confirmed to ET that he would indeed be back for Season 31. However, he isn’t at all sure who will come back with him.

Rumor has it that Tyra Banks is definitely out as hostess, but Dancing With The Stars producers never confirmed that. Fans will likely know more as September approaches.

Will the Utah-native ever come back as a pro dancer?

Many DWTS viewers are pretty big Derek Hough fans. They love seeing him sit at the judges’ table, but would he ever step back onto the stage?

But fans probably shouldn’t hold their breath.

“I’m OK,” Derek told Parade last fall. “I feel I’m very lucky right now where I can get the best of both worlds. I get to have those performances and those moments to dance, but I’m also very happy to be like, ‘Alright. Show me what you guys were working on all week.’”

However, he said that last fall and a lot of things have changed since then. Pro dancer Val Chmerkovskiy isn’t expected to return this fall. And since the show is shifting platforms, there’s no telling who Dancing With The Stars will put in a pro dancer’s position.

  1. I have Direct TV, so after watching every single year of DWTS, I am so sad that I won’t be able to get it! I am very, very disappointed!
