Legends of Tomorrow had an expected twist during the Season 7 finale that, unfortunately, fans will never get to see play out. Keep reading to see why the popular show is being canceled.

The Show’s Cancelation Didn’t Surprise Fans

For fans, the announcement of the show’s cancelation was upsetting, but not surprising. The CW recently released an early announcement of the shows they issued renewals, but two DC shows were missing from the list, foreshadowing the cancelations.

Network officials announced that Batwoman, another popular DC Comics-based series, would not be returning to television. Additionally, Legends of Tomorrow would be taken off the air too. For individuals in the LGBT community, the announcements came as quite the blow to their group’s representation in the media. Both shows have queer female main characters.

Executive producer Keto Shimizu made the announcement about the show coming to its end on Twitter. She wrote, “Well, folks. It’s been an incredible run. However, the CW has let us know that there will be no season 8 of #LegendsOfTomorrow. We are heartbroken, but also immensely grateful for the amazing work our cast, crew, and writers have contributed to the little show that could.”

Shimizu went on to thank the fans of the show. “We see you, we love you, and you’ll always have a place on the Waveride,” she concluded.

Writers chimed in on Twitter too, sharing that they were saddened by the show’s cancelation. “This has been the journey of a lifetime,” they wrote on Twitter.

They continued in the comments, “We and @BatwomanWriters were holding out hope that we’d both get to come back for another year, but it was not to be. For fans of either/both shows, we’re grateful for your support!”

Why Did The ‘Legends Of Tomorrow’ Finale End On A Cliffhanger?

While fans may have seen the show’s end coming after CW’s early renewal announcement, it was not planned. Co-showrunner Phil Klemmer talked with Entertainment Weekly about plans for season eight in March. He discussed possibly taking on capitalism in the next season, a season that won’t arrive for Legends of Tomorrow.

When Booster Gold turned the Legends into the time cops in the last episode of season seven, the show ends there. Klemmer and other producers on the show had plans for the story to continue. The twist revealed in the finale will never be resolved now though, and there is no real explanation as to why.

Even though there won’t be any new episodes of Legends of Tomorrow, you can still watch the show on Netflix and find re-runs on The CW. Just remember, you may join the ranks of fans disappointed by the show’s ending.
