It’s a very difficult time for the Dancing With The Stars pro dancers. Right now, they aren’t entirely sure whether or not they will have jobs when DWTS goes to Disney+ this fall. But members of the team are in mourning right now, including Val Chmerkovskiy.

It’s been a very emotionally charged time for the Ukrainian-born dancer. He’s been working with his brother Maks Chmerkovskiy to raise funds for Ukrainian refugees. But now, he’s mourning the loss of someone very close to him. Keep reading to learn more.

Val Chmerkovskiy mourns the loss of a loved one

Val Chmerkovskiy and his wife Jenna Johnson live in Los Angeles and are major dog lovers. If fans follow the couple online, they can frequently catch glimpses of the couple’s dogs in posts.

But sadly, it seems that a dog very close to the couple’s heart passed away.

“RIP Sir Sleep A lot,” Val captioned his Instagram post. The dog in the photo is not one of the dogs that Val and Jenna share photos of in their own home. Based on this information, it doesn’t appear that the late pooch is one of Val and Jenna’s. Fans can’t be sure who he belonged to, but it appears he made a very strong connection with the Chmerkovskiys.

Jenna left a series of sad emojis on the post, “🥺💔🐶”

Sorry bud- I know how much you loved that guy and we loved seeing him with you and Maks. ❤️” commented one of Val’s followers.

It appears that the dog likely belonged to someone in the family. Either way, fans understand that losing a beloved pet can be one of the most difficult times in a person’s life.

The Chmerkovskiy brothers donate their time and resources to help Ukraine

Val Chmerkovskiy might be in mourning, but he also has a lot to keep him busy right now. He previously said that he won’t return to DWTS. And his ongoing projects seem to make that statement more likely.

As previously stated, Val is really dedicated to helping Ukrainian refugees right now. He and his brother Maks are using their platforms to raise awareness for the conflict and to raise funds. Maks even goes back and forth to Poland to help with the efforts.

“My father and my brother, together with a lot of people that we work with all the time, that we’re just friends with, and with the help of whom, we’ve started our organization, Baranova 27,” Maks shared in a social media post. “For those of who’ve been following, Baranova 27 is the address where my father, myself and Val were born, in Odesa in Ukraine. So, that’s where, sort of our roots are at. And we’ve been working diligently on making Baranova 27 something that, as big as it took off, that it can continue that way.”
