‘Below Deck’ Daisy Kelliher Was Almost Paralyzed From Drunken Injury

Below Deck Sailing Yacht crew member Daisy Kelliher revealed she almost ended up paralyzed from a drunken injury while working in the yachting industry. Long before she joined the Bravo series, she talked about the scariest injury in her career. The accident was so bad that she was immobile. About a decade ago, Daisy was working as a green stew on her first boat.

During the crew outing, she drank so much, which caused her to fall backward on the bulkhead. Instead of seeking medical help, Daisy went to sleep after the accident. When she woke up, she couldn’t get out of bed. The crew finally called for a doctor who told her she hit a muscle that almost left her paralyzed.

Daisy opened up about that horrific ordeal on her weekly Pita Party on Instagram. Each week, she recaps the current events from Below Deck Sailing Yacht and talks about her experience in yachting. Things took a serious turn when Daisy almost couldn’t walk again. She had a good sense of humor about the injury because she said it also involved a hookup and “granny panties.”

“The crew hatch, there was a ladder,” Daisy said on the latest episode of Pita Party. “And you stood over and you stood next to the bulkhead. But the ladder kept going down into the laundry area. But you stepped halfway into the crew area — it was a bit of a leap. I was drunk but I wasn’t that drunk. I was tipsy.”

The Below Deck star had a good night before that accident. While the crew was out, she hooked up with a guy she was interested in. The chief stew made it clear they didn’t sleep together. She had so much to drink that she lost her balance and fell “back onto a bulkhead.”

Daisy Kelliher was temporarily immobile

The moment her head hit the pillow, the next morning came. The Below Deck fan-favorite realized she was unable to move. She was scared since she was new to the crew and the world of yachting. Daisy wondered if she will ever walk again.

“I couldn’t walk,” she continued. “So I got a doctor. And this was so embarrassing. Because I got into bed and I had been hooking up with this guy. And I was wearing granny panties and I put them back to front.”

She ended up in just a T-shirt and underwear since she couldn’t get dressed. Daisy says she was “screaming and crying” every time she tried to move. She apologized to the doctor for her “granny panties.” Thankfully, the Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 3 star recovered from that incident.

“I hit a muscle,” Daisy explained. “And the nerves around the muscle contracted to protect the muscle. So that was the tension I was feeling and why I couldn’t walk.”

She also worried that she had slipped her disc, but there was no damage to her back. It took her a few months to fully recover from the accident. Daisy said it was “the worst pain” she ever had and says it was “a really, really scary time.” As fans know, Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 3 has had its share of dangerous incidents and accidents.
