‘American Idol’ 16 Year Old Emyrson Flora More Than Just A Pretty Face?

American Idol 16-year-old contestant Emyrson Flora is more than just a pretty face. She performed Demi Lovato’s hit song “Tell Me You Love Me” on the Sunday, April 17 episode. She is quickly working up the ranks to become a star. Emyrson became the youngest performer to compete in the singing competition.

The last one was Jordin Sparks, who was 17 years old when she competed in 2007. Now, Emyrson is opening up about her experience with singing on the big stage. She first performed in her school’s choir but then joined the 2023-2024 school year with Walsh Jesuit High School in Ohio.

Emyrson continues to raise the stakes on the show. She recently sang “Love in the Dark” by Adele, which propelled her to the Top 24.

Emyrson Flora talks about her Idol experience

Emyrson Flora made time for an interview with Cleveland News. She already moved her way up the ranks on American Idol. The young girl looked back on her audition. From there, she continued to work her way up the ranks. Flora entered the Top 24 thanks to her Adele cover.

“It’s so surreal. I’ve learned so much about myself as an artist and as a person,” she said. “I’ve grown so much. I think my favorite part about this is the people I’m surrounded by.”

Flora recalled being “in shock the whole time” when she auditioned in front of the judges. When she went to “Hollywood Week,” that’s when she realized that her dreams were starting to come true. Suddenly, the shock was gone and reality was setting in.

“You have to start to realize this is actually happening. Now that it’s happening, I am trying to be very aware that it’s not normal. You have to take it all in.”

On the Sunday episode of American Idol, she received a standing ovation from all three judges. This earned her a spot in the Top 20. Flora continues to climb up the ranks of the hit show. She made another realization: that she belongs there on the stage.

American Idol contestant hopes to make it to the end

The American Idol contestant hopes that she can make it all the way to the end. She just found out that she will be one of the many in the Top 14.

“You had a strut and walk that was great tonight,” Lionel Richie said.

“You may be our youngest, but I think you are one of our most talented,” Katy Perry added.

The young singer didn’t see this moment ever happening to her. She never saw herself as a professional singer. The American Idol hopeful shared a message for those at home. She wants everyone to know they too can follow their dreams.

“I’m just a normal 16-year-old junior in high school that no one really knew much about,” Flora said. “… I don’t think I saw myself as being confident enough to do something like this. … And now I’m realizing that you can follow your dreams and I’m starting to like that.”
