‘My 600-Lb. Life’: Donald Shelton Seeks Funds From Fans

Donald Shelton from TLC

It’s not uncommon for My 600-Lb. Life participants to have financial issues. Most of the guests have mounting medical costs, which makes it difficult for day-to-day survival too. It’s been quite some time since Donald Shelton appeared on the popular TLC show. But now, he’s back in the spotlight and trying to raise some funds.

Keep reading to learn more about Donald’s journey after all these years and see what he needs the money for.

Donald Shelton has some mobility issues and uses a wheelchair to help

We first met Donald Shelton way back when My 600-Lb. Life first aired in 2012.

As per Us Weekly, Donald “went from 675 to 295 pounds after his operation, but he was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, an autoimmune disorder that causes the immune system to damage the nerves. He gained back 200 pounds but vowed to try to shed the weight again and keep it off.”

Due to his health condition, Donald Shelton still uses a wheelchair. But now, he needs a new wheelchair-accessible van in order to get around. And those are not at all cheap.

Someone, presumably Donald’s cousin, started a Go Fund Me campaign in February to help Donald raise the money he needs.

“Hi everyone, I am fundraising to try to help Mary Shelton & Donald Shelton get a reliable handicap van,” the campaign reads. “Aunt Mary is always helping everyone with anything they need so let’s try to help her this time please. The handicap van she has now has been a blessing but it’s not as reliable as it used to be. They need this van so she is able to transport Donald & she also takes people from her church that are handicap to church. Little Donald was put in a wheelchair in 2007 due to a flu shot that gave him Gilliam-Bare syndrome & she lost her husband Donald 6 years ago. I know money is tight for everyone right now but every little bit will help. Thank you so very much in advance.”

Right now, the campaign raised just shy of $1,000. The end goal is $40,000. Hopefully, Donald’s family can raise the money he needs.

The future of My 600-Lb. Life

It’s always great to hear updates about former My 600-Lb. Life participants. Fans feel happy to know that Donald Shelton still has his family’s love and support — even amid his health conditions.

But the show itself might be in a bit of jeopardy. One of our TV Shows Ace writers had the chance to chat with a My 600-Lb. Life guest who confirmed there are major changes happening behind the scenes. Most notably, it seems like the famous Dr. Now is no longer with the program.

The show may come back for another season, but there will be a very different dynamic when it does.

Until then, keep following us online for more update pieces. We’ll be here to give you the latest information.
