The movie is based on the original newspaper comic strip that has been running since 1954. The comic strip tells the story of a family and their Great Dane named Marmaduke. Originally created by Brad Anderson, the much-loved comic strip still runs to this day.
Meanwhile, this isn’t the first time the comic strip has been adapted. In fact, it featured in a family comedy released by Twentieth Century Fox in 2010. That live-action adaption starred Owen Wilson, Emma Stone, and George Lopez.
Who is voicing the animated movie?
The new animated movie features the voices of SNL’s Pete Davison, J.K. Simmons, Shelby Young, David Koechner and Tania Gunadi. Behind the scenes, Marmaduke is produced by Andrews McMell Entertainment and Legacy Classics.
SNL star and Kim Kardashian’s new man, Pete Davidson, leads the voice cast in the titular role of Marmaduke. Meanwhile, J.K. Simmons (Spider-Man, Whiplash) voices the role of Zeus. Shelby Young voices the role of Shantrelle, David Koecher (The Office, Anchorman) voices Phil and Julie Nathanson (Great Pretender) is the voice of Dottie. Another star is Erin Fitzgerald (Ask the Storybots) who voices the role of Barbara.
Meanwhile, other characters in the animated movie include Tania Gunadi, Brian Hull, Stephen Stanton, Terri Douglas and Andrew Morgado.
The movie will run for 88 minutes and sees Marmaduke training for, and eventually competing, in the Westminster Championship.
When will Marmaduke debut on Netflix?
Originally, Netflix planned to release the animated movie in 2020, but it was delayed by the global pandemic. However, the movie is now set to premiere on May 6, 2022, in the US and the UK. Meanwhile, according to What’s on Netflix, Marmaduke is expected to air in other regions, as well as enjoy a theatrical release.
Meanwhile, according to the Legacy Classics website, a television series based on the IP is also in development. So far, it is unclear whether the series will also drop on the streamer. However, reportedly, the animated movie will be the first step in a major relaunch of the Marmaduke brand. Reportedly, more movies, television series and merchandise are already in the pipeline.
