Why don’t My 600-Lb. Life guests shop at cheaper grocery stores?

We all know that some grocery stores are cheaper than others. So why don’t My 600-Lb. Life guests ever shop at the more affordable ones?

“I’ve noticed that the patients who can still walk and the people who shop for the ones who can’t often go to small grocery stores, which are usually so much more expensive than larger ones,” the original Reddit user stated. “I buy most of my groceries at ALDI and Walmart; I couldn’t afford to go to the little supermarket near me to buy everything. Stuff there is often $2-3 more per item than it is at Walmart. How do the patients who are on public assistance afford to shop at the regular supermarket? I could have sworn some of them had been filmed at Walmart before, so I wouldn’t think it was because only the little stores would let the crew in to film.”

Other Reddit users quickly chimed in — the situation may not be what it seems onscreen.

“The groceries and food they shop for and consume on the show are actually paid for by the film production company,” another Reddit user informed the OP.

“That explains Dolly buying a cart full of individually packed slices of cake,” another user realized.

Since the production crew pays for the food, they get to throw in anything they want and alter the audience’s perception. They can make it seem like a guest eats more junk food than they do to fit the show’s narrative.
