‘Rent-A-Girlfriend’ Season 2 Digs Into Ruka’s Background & Motives

Rent-A-Girlfriend from CrunchyRoll

Many anime lovers fell head over heels in love with the series, Rent-A-Girlfriend. Luckily, there will be a second season coming this summer. But what can we expect to see from the popular anime?

There’s a lot we don’t know yet, but it appears we’ll get to know more about the character, Ruka Sarashina.

So far, she’s just really been a thorn in Kazuya’s side. But is that going to change in season 2? Keep reading to see what we know.

Rent-A-Girlfriend Season 2 will flesh out Ruka’s character a little better

When we last left Ruka, she was desperately trying to win Kazuya’s love for real. But it didn’t really seem like things were working in her favor.

After all, Kazuya is still very clearly confused about his feelings for both Chizuru and Mami. At this point, Ruka is really just an annoyance at best. Her actions are extreme, so what exactly drives her? This is one of many questions that Rent-A-Girlfriend fans have moving forward.

So are we actually going to see any character development from her in Rent-A-Girlfriend Season 2?

It appears likely. CBR notes many hints sprinkled throughout Season 1 that hint at Ruka’s motivations. More than likely, we’ll dive into these throughout Season 2.

If you paid close attention to Rent-A-Girlfriend Season 1, we continuously saw Ruka checking her heartbeat, which hints at a medical condition. Season 1 touches on this, but it’s more thoroughly explored in the manga.

We can’t expect the anime to follow the manga scene for scene, but we can get some clues about where the show will go from here.

As we saw in the anime, no one gets Ruka’s heart racing quite like Kazuya does — which is exactly why she pursues him. If she gets a handle on her medical condition, will she ease up a little bit?

What else can we expect from Season 2?

As CBR notes, Ruka’s backstory definitely needs to be covered in further detail. Rent-A-Girlfriend Season 2 will probably further explore the “will they, won’t they” dynamic of Kazuya and Chizuru, but fans want more details on Ruka too.
