She always wanted to do cosplay and noticed Wakana Gojo’s sewing skills. She asks him to create a costume of a character from a video game she loves to play. Wakana makes the costume she always wanted. The first season came out and it’s already burning up the charts.

What is My Dress-Up Darling all about?

My Dress-Up Darling is a manga written and illustrated by Shinichi Fukuda. The Square Enix publishing house published the series in the Young Gangan magazine on January 19, 2018. The anime adaptation aired first aired on Japanese television on January 9, 2022. Since its release, fans haven’t gotten enough of My Dress-Up Darling.

Funimation released the official description for the series:

“Wakana Gojo is a high school boy who wants to become a kashirashi–a master craftsman who makes traditional Japanese Hina dolls. Though he’s gung-ho about the craft, he knows nothing about the latest trends, and has a hard time fitting in with his class. The popular kids–especially one girl, Marin Kitagawa–seem like they live in a completely different world. That all changes one day, when she shares an unexpected secret with him, and their completely different worlds collide.”

Since then, Blu-Ray sales for the anime series are blowing up the charts. However, there are some fans who wish they could watch My Dress-Up Darling on a streaming platform. It’s weird to think that Blu-Ray is still popular in 2022. Most anime fans get their fix through streaming services.

My Dress-Up Darling renewed for Season 2?

In its first week, My Dress-Up Darling sold over 10,000 units of its first season on Blu-Ray. It proves that there’s still a market for physical media in the era of streaming. It also proves that anime fans are willing to pay for Blu-Ray releases. The first season of My Dress-Up Darling had 12 episodes.

However, CloverWorks hasn’t announced whether the popular series will return for a second season. The manga series continues to release new chapters on a regular basis. So, there is plenty of material to work with. The studio wants to focus on other stories, such as Spy x Family, which will premiere next month.
