Some contestants seem to think Dr. Now will have all the answers to their problems

Reddit is a great place to see what other My 600-Lb. Life fans think. One recent thread suggested Dr. Now may have a little too much power on the show.

“Why do all the patients think Dr. Now is a godly figure who solely determines their fate?” the original poster wonders. “It’s something I seriously ponder every time I watch. They lie about how much they eat, they come up with all these excuses as to why they gained or didn’t lose. They always phrase their hope for progress in a way that is based only on how Dr. Now will feel/react to it.”

The OP went on to wonder why many of the patients care about Dr. Now’s opinion in the first place. He’s a wonderful surgeon, but at the end of the day, he’s just the man.

“I kind of wonder if they actually think this way, or if it’s more of a scripted TV tactic to gain views and exacerbate the whole obesity discrimination conversation on social media in America,” the poster concluded.

Other Reddit users seemed to think the OP made a great point here.

“These people think that having the surgery is a quick fix. I don’t know how many people have said ‘I could not eat like this forever, but I can do it until the surgery.'”
