When Calls The Heart Season 9 premiered Sunday, after months of Team Nathan Hearties who disappointedly went onto social media to share their displeasure, and promised to stop watching the show.

They were unhappy with Elizabeth’s choice of the saloon owner, Lucas Bouchard, instead of Mountie Nathan Grant.

Now, we will learn how much damage has been done. How were the Season 9 ratings in comparison to Season 8’s premiere? Did the ratings take a hit? Could Hallmark have made a mistake?

How Did When Calls The Heart Season 9 Premiere Ratings Compare?

On Sunday, When Calls The Heart premiered Season 9. On Tuesday, the ratings came out. How did they do? WCTH co-creator, Brian Bird went to Twitter to share the news.

Check this out #hearties. You set a new Live plus same-day season premiere ratings record! #Heartiesrule!

What he shared was a Tweet from Cable News Watch, a site that shares ratings. They wrote, “🎈  Congrats #Hearties  2.3M debut for season 9! Season 8’s debut had 2.14!”

The balloon was a nice touch, as the episode included a hot air balloon, and the new ratings were soaring like a balloon. This is certainly a nice bump.

Hearties Loved The New Episode

Hearties left some nice compliments to Bird about the When Calls The Heart Season 9 premiere, “In Like A Lion.”

One fan addressed the negative comments when they responded, “We’re the #Hearties❤ and we’re strong! The few negative clowns thought they’d get in the way of ratings but they didn’t. Let’s GO!!!!!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼❤❤❤❤❤❤.”

Another approved of the storylines, particularly that of Lucabeth. “Love this! 👏👏 All the storylines are fantastic and I’m enamored by that one burgeoning love story that’s every bit as wonderful as advertised. Congratulations to everyone who makes this show possible!! #Hearties #LucaBeth #WCTH #Season9WillBeDivine.”

Another even shared that she brought a new fan into the fold. “Invited a friend to watch S9 premiere and she’s already hooked 🥰 Her words, “This is a great show!” We have another new #Hearties added to this amazing fandom.”

When Calls The Heart’s Brian Bird Gently Deals With Unhappy Hearties

The Tuesday news on the When Calls The Heart Season 9 premiere ratings had to have felt good for the show’s co-creator, Brian Bird.

Ever since the love triangle was resolved last May, he has gently dealt with some unhappy, even some bitter Hearties with a lot of gentle grace.

On Monday, there were two such examples. One former fan wrote, “No, thanks… but good luck! 👍” Brian greatly responded on Twitter, “We’ll miss you… but appreciate the well-wishes… and Hope Valley will be waiting for you with open arms if you change your mind.”

Lastly, on Monday, a very bitter fan predicted that this would be the show’s last season. She also tagged the Hallmark Channel Twitter handle to make sure they saw this as well.

You are the one that caused discord among the fans. You are the one that caused fans to turn away. Many of us will not be watching and you have no one to blame but yourself. Enjoy your last season.

Brian’s response on Twitter?

Sorry you feel that way… but we all respond to circumstances based on our life experiences. We can choose to be victims or victors. I wish you well and Hope Valley will be waiting for you with open arms if you change your mind.

Brian Bird must have felt vindicated at these record numbers. Moreover, he has assured everyone that Hope Valley will welcome back Hearties with open arms.

Hearties, did you watch the When Calls The Heart Season 9 premiere?

  1. Yes I watched the premiere I waited in anticipation with giddiness and was not let down. I am looking forward to this match because they are truly a beautiful couple together. I hate to see the animosity with the fans of Nathan, because I would not of quit the show if he was chosen because I love all the characters on this fabulous show. Such huge talents in all. Nathan will find his love but he was not a good choice for Elizabeth because he needs to concentrate on the law. They really had not much in common. Give the people time and maybe they will forgive and forget when they see Nathan blossom with a new love who is already showing an Intrest with him. Please promise us excitement, love and happiness for all, with a little drama because this is the best show on Tv. Congrats Hallmark for making most Heartie Fans happy, and having the Number 1 show on the air.

  2. I’ve am 75 years old and have enjoyed “When Calls the Heart” immensely. I was glad that Elizabeth chose Lucas. I think it would have been too “soapy” had she chosen another Mountie. Looking forward to Season 9 and more thereafter. Hope to see the sister show return.

  3. The ratings were horrible. The ratings that count brought in this season premiere of .14 and was NOT in the top 50 shows on Sunday. This show has always been one of the top 50 shows on Sunday since J&E lit up the screen. Bird is gaslighting all of you if you think this show has not lost viewers. It’s horrible what they have done to this show.
