Danielle Ruhl & Nick Thompson Confirm They’re In Marriage Counseling
Life after Love Is Blind can definitely be challenging. Nick Thompson and Danielle Ruhl got married on the show in the season finale. And in the reunion special, they revealed they’re still married.
However, they do have a lot of hurdles they still need to overcome. And that’s why they’ve opted to go to marriage counseling. Keep reading to find out what’s going on between Nick and Danielle these days.
Nick Thompson and Danielle Ruhl are doing their best to make their marriage last
Love Is Blind Season 2 viewers watched Danielle Ruhl and Nick Thompson work through a lot of ups and downs. Like many other couples on the show, they really felt the pressure. Couples don’t have a very long time frame for developing relationships, having an engagement, and getting married. This kind of pressure would be too much for some couples, but Nick and Danielle really want to make things work.
During the course of the series, we learned that Danielle struggles with anxiety. She’s acknowledged she’s working on her mental health, but her anxiety did fuel a lot of the arguments the couple had.
She even went as far as to call out Love Is Blind and say that the show didn’t quite show an accurate portrayal of her. Danielle went on to ask for kindness, compassion, and understanding as someone who wants to improve their mental health. Above all else, she just wants others to recognize her humanity.
But it appears that Nick is willing to accept his wife, however she comes. And that’s why the pair really wants to work on things in counseling.
The Love Is Blind stars get candid about their counseling sessions
PEOPLE had the chance to talk to the couple and get the inside scoop on their marriage counseling sessions.
“We’re in couples counseling and we have been now, for almost the entire time since we’ve finished [the show],” Nick told the publication. “We’ve put frameworks in place for communication. We’ve had to force ourselves through some conversations [about] what we actually need in that moment and [have] worked on being able to articulate that.”
“Sometimes that means walking away for a little bit or sometimes that means, ‘Let’s table it and drop it and forget about it,’ ” he continued. “There are so many different things that we’re applying to our communication [style] that has really given us a good step to move forward.”
Danielle added that the pair are seeking individual counseling as well so they can work on their relationship.
“A lot of couples, when they’re dating, have the opportunity to naturally learn one another’s language as you would if you’re trying to learn a language outside of English,” Danielle told PEOPLE. “Learning that in such a short period of time is very difficult and takes a lot of patience, love and understanding from both sides.”
“That’s why we are trying every single day to figure out how to interpret what the other person’s saying because my definition of something could be an entirely different definition of what he thinks something is,” she added. “There’s a lot of unnecessary conflicts that happen just based on misinterpretation.”
