Zatch Bell fans have had an absolute bombshell dropped on them. Twenty years after the manga first appeared in the Weekly Shonen Jump, the creators have announced a new sequel series. Here’s everything that has been revealed so far and when you can expect to see Zatch Bell again.

Original Creators Return To Resurrect ‘Zatch Bell’

There is no doubt creators in the entertainment industry are playing on the nostalgia heartstrings of fans these days. Reboots and new series have become a common recurrence. Even Law & Order returned with a new season after being off the air for more than a decade. In the anime world, a similar theme is presenting itself.

Inuyasha, a popular series that originally debuted in 2000, returned to television through the series Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon in 2020. Spice And Wolf, a popular manga, will also be turned into an anime to celebrate its 15th anniversary. Now, creators of Zatch Bell have announced a new sequel series.

For those not familiar, Zatch Bell was first featured in the Weekly Shonen Jump in 2001. There were around 33 volumes of the manga published and it ran until 2007. Zatch Bell tells the story of Kiyomaro Takamine, a high school student who is taken into a supernatural world.

In terms of supernatural battles and creatures, the series has often been compared to Pokemon. There is one major difference between the two storylines though. The creatures in Zatch Bell’s world need a human to read spells to be able to reach their full fighting potential. Each creature in this supernatural world is fighting to become rulers of their domain.

When Will The New Sequel Series Debut?

The series hasn’t had anything new published in 15 years. It was popular enough to receive a television series and even a feature film. Eventually, it was picked up by Toonami, Cartoon Network’s late-night programming block. Many fans assumed they wouldn’t see Zatch Bell again outside of re-runs and old manga. Creators of the series say fans are in for a surprise because Zatch Bell is returning soon.

Makoto Raiku, the creator of Zatch Bell, was the one to release the news that manga would be getting a sequel series. They shared the news via Twitter and promised the manga would return to the Weekly Shonen Jump next month.

Many shows make the mistake of not having the original creators return. However, Raiku will be returning to further explore the world they created and there are sure to be some epic battles.

Fans of Bell’s supernatural battles and stories can expect to see Zatch Bell return mid-March. Until then, you can find the show on Crunchyroll, Funimation, and other streaming services.

Now that Zatch Bell is making a return, what other animes would you like to see make a comeback?
