It goes without saying that Peta Murgatroyd and the rest of the family are having a really tough time right now. Maks Chmerkovskiy does his best to keep everyone informed, but it’s still a scary situation.

But the random acts of kindness are really touching Peta’s heart and making it a little bit easier.

“Although I’m going through hell right now and I want it all to end…their [sic] is light that shines through the darkness,” the DWTS pro captioned an Instagram post. “Strangers baked me cookies and proudly brought them to my door. They stood there with smiles so wide. Let me repeat….strangers, whom I don’t talk to thought that they should get in their kitchen and bake me cookies. They also took it upon themselves to google if I was allergic to anything, just to make sure they weren’t hurting me.”

“I welled up. They said ‘Anything you need, we are here for you.’ I’m a cancer by zodiac. I’m already emotional and these acts of kindness push me over the edge,” Peta continued. “Thank you to EVERYONE who has reached out, whether it be by text/calls/DM’s/email/comments/street/post office….people I haven’t spoken to in 15 years have found me on social just to pray for me. It’s beyond and it means the world to me ❤️🙏🏻”

For now, Peta just wants everyone to continue to pray for Maks and his safe return. Men between the ages of 18-60 can’t leave the country so we don’t know when Maks will be able to get out.

Maks’ family immigrated to avoid war in the first place

Maks and Val Chmerkovskiy were both born in Ukraine. Their parents took them to the United States as children so that they could avoid unrest in the region.

In a recent Instagram post of his own, Val admitted he would probably be on the front lines of the war if they had stayed.

“My parents fled this country for this exact reason,” the 35-year-old dancer wrote. “Not because it wasn’t good to them, but because their kids would see war eventually. It’s a cruel irony that 28 years later my brother is in a bomb shelter in Kiev. If they hadn’t left I would be on the front lines defending my home right now.”

Hopefully, Maks will come home soon. Keep the family in your thoughts as the situation continues. We’ll bring you more information on Maks Chmerkovskiy as soon as we know any more.
