Dancing With The Stars alum Maks Chmerkovskiy is still stuck in Ukraine as the chaos continues. However, he’s doing his best to update fans on his condition and let everyone know that he’s okay.

In his most recent Instagram videos, he describes the situation as “dire.” His brother Val Chmerkovskiy confirmed that Maks is in a bomb shelter waiting out the danger. Meanwhile, his wife Peta Murgatroyd just wants everyone to pray over the situation. Without a doubt, his family is scared and just wanted him to come home.

Maks Chmerkovskiy frequently goes back and forth between Ukraine and the United States for work projects. He’s a judge on the Ukrainian version of DWTS and also works on the Ukrainian version of World Of Dance. It appears he was working on one project when Russia invaded.

Many fans want to know exactly why Maks hasn’t left yet, which he does address in one video.

“I just want to clarify, I’m not currently trying to leave. I’m staying here. I’m going to do my best to make sure I’m safe as possible. But I’m not moving towards the border currently,” Maks addresses his viewers.

“I heard it’s not safe and unfortunately some of my friends are right now on the route to the Polish border. But they’re also reporting that it’s quite dangerous and just a lot of senseless activity going on outside of war stuff. But I made a decision not to try to go right now.”

Of course, fans really want Maks to make it back to the U.S. — but not until he can do it safely.

Val Chmerkovskiy thanks their parents for moving their family as children

The Chmerkovskiy brothers and their parents immigrated to the United States back in the 90s. In an Instagram post of his own, Val admits that if they hadn’t moved, he would probably be on the frontlines right now.

“My parents fled this country for this exact reason,” the 35-year-old dancer began. “Not because it wasn’t good to them, but because their kids would see war eventually. It’s a cruel irony that 28 years later my brother is in a bomb shelter in Kiev. If they hadn’t left I would be on the front lines defending my home right now.”

For now, all fans can really do is follow Peta’s request and to pray over the situation.

  1. This is so unnecessary. It’s one mans greed; Putin! This attack was unprovoked. Just terrible. Prayers to get you home, Maks. And prayers to get the Russians out of your country!
