The current Ukrainian crisis has many people around the globe concerned. But for Dancing With The Stars pro Peta Murgatroyd, it all hits a little too close to home.
Her husband, Maks Chmerkovskiy, is a Ukrainian native. Recently, he’s been traveling back and forth between the country and the United States for work. Maks is part of Ukraine’s versions of Dancing With The Stars and World Of Dance.
And as fans realized this morning, Maks is still in the country.

He seems safe for now, but Peta Murgatroyd is asking for prayers. Without a doubt, it’s an incredibly scary time for the family.
Peta Murgatroyd wants fans and family members to pray for Ukraine during this difficult time
Hours after Maks Chmerkovskiy updated fans on his situation, Peta Murgatroyd crafted an Instagram post of her own.
“Please pray for my husband Maks,” the 35-year-old dancer wrote. “I don’t usually ask these things from my social media network, however today is extremely hard and the new few will be even harder. My pain is overwhelming and I’m struggling, but you sending your positive light and love to him would mean the world to me. Truly, I wish for nothing more. Many of you are asking for details and I don’t have the answers, but yes, he is safe right now.”
Peta goes on to ask her fans to pray for the Ukrainian people as well. She had the chance to visit Maks at work on occasion and feels heartbroken about the situation at hand.

While Maks is in Ukraine, Peta and their son Shai are safe at their home in the United States. Hopefully, he is able to join them soon.
Maks Chmerkovskiy is reliving a traumatic chapter of his past while in Ukraine
Earlier today, Maks posted on Instagram and said that he will “never be the same” after the invasion. The Ukrainian dancer grew up during the days of the Soviet Union, which actually prompted his family to go to the United States.
“There’s ALWAYS another way! WAR is NEVER an answer!” the dancer captioned his post before adding the hashtag, #standwithukraine.
“P.S. I will never be the same. This is stressful and I’m getting old feelings back, like I’ve done this before. This does feel like the way it was when and why we left in the 90s. Like my old PTSD I’ve finally fixed is coming back. I literally only just forgot about those ‘always on the edge’ feelings and actually started worrying about things like bbq grills. I’m crying as I’m typing this because all man deserves to worry about ‘bbq grills’ and not f—— war. Hug your loved ones.”
