Trevor Donovan is teaming up with When Calls The Heart co-creator Brian Bird for a series of movies inspired by television movies from the 70s-90s.

Here are all the details.

Trevor Donovan Working On New Series With Brian Bird

On Monday, Variety reported that Trevor Donovan and Brian Bird “have teamed up to create a series of “edutainment”-style films via Bird’s production company True Brand Entertainment.

Essentially, these are like the “after-school specials” that kids growing up in the 70s through the 90s enjoyed. Donovan explained how these movies were successful before, and should relate to a modern audience.

“These scripted narratives will be fun and humorous presentations of contemporary issues which inspire and uplift, just as they did in the original series.”

Donovan went to Twitter with the announcement. “Those of you who grew up in the 70s, 80s, or 90s may remember the After School Specials. I’m excited to share this news with you.👇 🏫 #genxers #millenials.”

Brian Bird stated, “At a time when our culture is so divided, our stories can be bridges of understanding, solve problems, offer healing and sometimes even save lives.” He also shared the overall purpose of the new series. “We believe there is a welcome market for entertainment that can entertain, inspire and lift all people up.”

Anyone who follows Trevor’s social media knows that he is about uniting people, not dividing. In addition, he has been very active in his national anti-bullying campaign. Donovan has gone into schools to talk about these issues.

He told TV Shows Ace in an exclusive interview how bullying is worse now than ever, thanks to social media. He has a bullying initiative that he told us about.

“When you were a kid, you could be bullied at school, but you could escape from it and go home. But now with social media, you can never escape it because it is anonymous.

My online presence is how to address the bullying initiative as well. If I am going to speak out on it I need to represent it correctly. I have to follow that in how I conduct myself online.

This is really important to me. There is a new hashtag #TheUpstanders.”

What Network Will Air New Series?

There is no information on what network will air the new Trevor Donovan series. However, the 90210 alum recently did sign an exclusive deal with GAC Media.

Although WCTH is on Hallmark, Brian Bird has also worked with GAC Family. The new network that is headed by ex-Hallmark CEO Bill Abbott saved the When Calls The Heart spinoff, When Hope Calls. That means Bird has a working relationship with both networks.

However, there could certainly be a third network that picks up these new movies. Donovan’s contract with GAC may possibly only include rom-com or Christmas movies, meaning that another network could pick up these movies.

Trevor Donovan Worked With Brian Bird In The Engagement Plot

This is not the first time that the USS Christmas star has worked with the When Calls The Heart co-creator.

When TV Shows Ace spoke to Trevor Donovan, he briefly discussed working with Brian Bird in The Engagement Plot. He explained that “This movie is not for GAC or Hallmark. They made it independently. [It is an acquisition.] This is a story like The Bachelor. This story is about the girl he didn’t pick, and he makes up for his mistake.”

In this Brian Bird-produced movie, The Engagement Plot, Trevor is paired up with Rachel Boston (Seal Team, A Christmas Carousel). Bubbly Sesh podcast fans will be thrilled to know that Jacklyn “Jacks” Collier (The Deuce, Love, Fall & Order) plays the best friend.

Brian Bird wrote the script for this movie, which is based on the Krista Phillips novel.

This is what IMDb says about the movie.

“After getting her heart broken on The Price of Love, a wildly popular dating reality show that matches 20-something female contestants with a young, financially successful bachelor, teacher Hanna Knight has returned to her small-town Colorado life and moved on to better things. But her quiet life is rudely interrupted when Will Preston, the hunk who broke her heart on national TV, shows up unexpectedly with hat in hand – and an outrageous literal proposal.”

What do you think of Trevor Donovan’s collaboration with Brian Bird? Do you remember the after-school movies?
