‘Beauty And The Beast’ Prequel Series: Production Halted, Here’s Why

Those who have been anxiously awaiting the return of dynamic duo Josh Gad and Luke Evans may be waiting for a very long time. The two played LeFou and Gaston in the live-action movie and would have played a part in creating a Beauty and the Beast prequel. While there were mixed reviews about the movie, most who saw it agreed the best part was Gad and Evans.

While Evans’ Gaston no doubt played the role of the villain, he made the narcissistic strong man likable. Gad as his trusty side-kick who acted a little in love with him, made the role even better. Now after a couple of delays it seems fans may never get to see what happened before the events of the movie.

Josh Gad Was Set To Produce The Show For Disney

While the show had been in pre-production with Josh Gad and two other creators in charge, it had several delays. Promising to be a musical spinoff that thrilled fans, the show faced several challenges. According to People, one of those delays happened because they wanted to film in the summer in the United Kingdom.

Also on board as showrunners were Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. The two created Once Upon a Time, another live-action fairy tale show. Luke Evans would have been joining Gad in producing the show, but surprisingly he wouldn’t have actually been playing Gaston. Some fans might be upset with that news considering Gaston and Luke Evans go well together.

Will The Show Still Happen?

Josh Gad and Luke Evans’s future with the show is unknown if the six-episode series does eventually get underway. The hype around the show leads fans to believe it will happen sometime. It just depends on when the creators can work out all the details.

There had been an announcement that Rita Ora would be joining the show right before the news of the delay came out. She would have played a “fugitive with surprising abilities who carries a secret,” which sounded very intriguing. As previously reported, Gad said the show would really expand the world of the film. He said fans would get to see how their relationship started and evolved.

Disney Loves An Expanding World

Disney does well expanding the world of characters and stories that are well-loved. They did the same with Tangled Sending Rapunzel and Eugene off on great adventures with new friends. They also recently expanded the world of Monster’s Inc with a new show. In addition to animated shows, they’ve also greatly expanded the Star Wars universe and Marvel with shows like The Mandalorian and WandaVision.
