Derek Hough Makes A Wild Confession About His ‘DWTS’ Wardrobe
Derek Hough is a professional dancer known for his bold personality. He won six Mirrorball Trophies during his time as a pro dancer on Dancing With The Stars. And he returned to the ballroom as a judge for Seasons 29 and 30.
The Utah-native hasn’t had quite as many wardrobe changes as the show’s hostess, Tyra Banks. However, Derek had many interesting outfits himself over the years.
But there’s one he really regrets.
Derek Hough reveals a confession about his onstage wardrobe
Keep in mind that Dancing With The Stars cast members with a team of stylists. It’s not always as simple as throwing on whatever they have in the closet at home. And this includes the judges.
“The only regret that I really have is when something doesn’t have that flexible fabric. Because you try something on and you tailor it so it fits like a glove — and then you sit down. Everything just squeezes a little tight, especially in the pants, and it gets really uncomfortable,” Derek told Us Weekly in a recent interview.
Sometimes the 36-year-old judge gets so uncomfortable that he will just undo one of the buttons under the judges’ table!
“I find myself sometimes having to unbutton the top button while I’m sitting there,” he laughed. “There’s been a few times where it was cutting off the circulation to my brain. That’s the only time I’ve ever regretted wearing something, when it inhibited my blood circulation … I also find myself talking a little bit faster to try and get the words out because I have no breath.”
If Derek Hough comes back to judge Season 31, you’ll probably never look at the judges’ table the same away again.
Costume design looks a little bit different for dancers though
Of course, the tight clothing is just for the judges’ table. There’s absolutely no way that any of the dancers could pull off their jumps and kicks in tight fabric.
“People always ask, ‘How do you dance in jeans? I’m like, well, they’re not just normal jeans. They’re stretchy jeans and they’re super comfortable,” Derek continued in the interview. He also added that dance costumes are all about comfortability, but also need a splash of color.
