This comes after she said that this season was a lot more “fun” than it came off on television. Chef Rachel Hargrove made an appearance on the Escape to Reality podcast.

She shared some fun tidbits about Captain Lee. They formed a bond after the turbulent Season 8 where she told him to “eat my c***er.” Yet, the two seem to get along with their inappropriate and iconic sayings. Rachel shared how genuine he is on and off Below Deck.

Captain Lee shares this piece of advice with Chef Rachel

The Below Deck star shared some advice that Captain Lee offered her. Surprisingly, his wise words had nothing to do with yachting. Lee advised her on how to navigate the social media backlash. This comes after Rachel was met with criticism over her drunken antics in the previous season. Her debut didn’t win over most of the Below Deck viewers. However, most of them warmed up to her thanks to her witty remarks and delicious dishes.

“Best advice… it was when I was learning how to deal with social media with the backlash of [Below Deck] Season 8,” Rachel said on the podcast. “He was like stay true to yourself and don’t focus on the negative. Just move forward and then go from there.”

She took that advice to heart. Rachel made a rocky debut on the Bravo series. While she was well-received by charter guests when it came to her meals, she drank hard during the crew nights out. Even first officer Eddie Lucas shaded her during his confessionals. Rachel was not happy to learn that he was talking about her behind her back.

She grew angry after a charter guest’s preference sheet had a long list of requests. She briefly quit and returned the next day. This came before production was put to a halt at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Rachel was feeling stressed about this new virus, as her then-boyfriend was telling her all about it.

Rachel loves hanging out with Captain Lee. The two have become good friends since their difficult work relationship played out in Season 8. She admits that they love to banter with one another. Lee also spent time with her in the galley. He would sometimes help with washing the dishes when things would get out of control. On Below Deck Season 9, the crew was short one stew when Jessica Albert quit mid-season.

Lee has reciprocated his feelings for Rachel. In an interview with Daily Mail Australia, he said that he loved her honesty. He also feels that she delivers on her work. Lee says she’s “one of the best chefs I’ve ever worked with.” That’s some high praise from the captain.
