Chad Duell Says Marriage Was Not Legal To Courtney Hope?
The Young and the Restless and General Hospital fans were hit with a doozy of a bombshell last month when news broke that Chad Duell and Courtney Hope split — their marriage over. But, legally, was there ever really a marriage, to begin with?
Turns out, Chad Duell sat down with GH star Maurice Benard to discuss his split from Courtney via his Maurice’s YouTube channel called State of Mind. The love story of Chad and Courtney
As we’ve previously reported, the love story of Chad Duell and Courtney Hope dates all the way back to 2016 when they started dating. Fast forward to Valentine’s Day of 2021, Chad proposes to Hope during a picnic on the beach in Malibu. The couple officially tied the knot that same year in October of 2021. Their wedding featured a gothic “Till Death” theme.
Despite dating for years, their marriage was short-lived. Just two months later, The Young and the Restless and General Hospital stars split. It’s been about a month since that relationship bombshell was dropped on Y&R and GH fans. Finally, Chad Duell is breaking his silence and spilling some shocking details on his marriage with Courtney Hope.
Chad Duell claims marriage was never official or legal
During his appearance on Maurice Benard’s State of Mind, Chad Duell admits he and Courtney Hope really pulled the wool over people’s eyes. They went through all of the motions of getting married. This included having a themed wedding ceremony. Legally, however, they were NOT officially married. Chad Duell explains they never signed or filed the necessary paperwork to make the marriage legal.
By the end of the video, Chad reassured Maurice his split with Courtney was mutual. He admitted there were some complicated bumps in the road. But, it wasn’t anything bad or terrible. Out of respect for Courtney, however, Chad was not willing to dive into the details of it.

Why go through all of the motions and expense of a mock wedding and it not be legal? That’s just ridiculous to me but, that’s Hollywood.
They might want to check with an attorney. In some states, as long as you have purchased a marriage license and have a ceremony, you are legally married, whether you sign the license or not or even if you sign it and rip it up.
