It’s no secret that Dancing With The Stars can take a massive physical toll on a person. Artem Chigvintsev and the rest of the pro dancers just finished up Season 30 in November. Immediately after, they started prepping for the winter tour, which is currently ongoing.

But this week, Artem announced he’s taking a step back from the tour right now — at least temporarily. He hopes he will be able to return before the tour wraps up in March. Unfortunately, we’ll just have to play the situation by ear.

Artem Chigvintsev announces he’s dropping out of the Dancing With The Stars tour

The Dancing With The Stars tour seems like it’s going really well right now. Which is why many fans felt shocked that Artem Chigvintsev announced his departure this week.

So what exactly caused the Season 29 champion to drop out?

Artem Chigvintsev is 39, which is definitely on the older side for competitive dancing. His exact reasoning for dropping out of the show isn’t known, but Artem did mention that it is health-related.

He penned a note to his fans and followers on Instagram letting them know about his departure.

“My time on tour so far has been wonderful – unfortunately I am having to step away from tour for a while, due to some unexpected health issues,” Artem wrote. “My goal is to recover as quickly as possible so I can rejoin my cast and crew on this incredible tour. Thank you for your patience and understanding. See you soon, Artem.”

The rest of the pro dancers left thoughtful well-wishes in the comments section.

The performance will definitely be different without Artem, but the show must go on.

The DWTS: Live! Tour is continuing as planned with our cast of amazing pros — we wish Artem a speedy recovery and look forward to having him back in the show in the very near future,” a DWTS rep told PEOPLE.

The ongoing Dancing With The Stars tour really brings the action

If you have tickets for the Dancing With The Stars tour, there’s still a lot to look forward to. We will all miss Artem Chigvintsev, but you really won’t want to miss out on this show.

For starters, this year the tour will feature more same-sex routines. JoJo Siwa and Jenna Johnson aren’t on the tour this year, but the remaining dancers are using some of their choreography in the routines. Gleb Savchenko and Alan Bersten recreated one of the women’s popular routines to perform on stage together.

It looks like Gleb is back on stage after sitting out early in the tour. He tested positive for COVID-19 and had to miss the first few performances. Hopefully, the rest of the dancers manage to stay healthy and well.
