Amanda Wong Is Latest Actress To Join When Calls The Heart
When Calls The Heart surprised fans this week with a March Season 9 premiere date, as well as a brand new character, Mei Sou. The actress portraying Mei is Amanda Wong.
Exclusively speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Amanda Wong shared her enthusiasm for joining the Hallmark series.
I’m excited that a strong, intelligent, Asian woman is arriving in Hope Valley.
Amanda worked closely with WCTH showrunner John Tinker, as well as actor, producer, director Peter DeLuise to create Mei Sou.
Moreover, they have incorporated some of Amanda’s “real-life skills” into the character of Mai Sou. This is very personal to Amanda. She shared how significant her role is in When Calls The Heart.
Growing up, I’d never seen myself represented in English-speaking period films and shows, so being on WCTH is both surreal and life-changing.
After sharing her appreciation to John and Peter, she revealed “I feel extra lucky that I get to be the one to play her.”
A Little About Amanda Wong
Amanda Wong is well-educated, having earned a master’s in journalism from the University of Hong Kong. She also speaks several languages. Lastly, one fun fact is that she, along with her family and 2,000 others on a cruise, holds a Guinness World Record for largest finger painting. That must be a good party icebreaker!
Fans who watch Hallmark movies may remember her from the recent movie, Raise A Glass To Love. She has also been in A Million Little Things, as well as Merry Liddle Christmas.
What Do We Know About Mei Sou?
In When Calls The Heart Season 9, Mei (whose name means “beautiful”) “might or might not have ridden into town on a very fast brown quarter horse.”
Amanda describes her character as a “truly spectacular woman.”
She’s got courage of conviction, she’s strong and intelligent, loves animals, and is super passionate.
In addition, she becomes close with her new gal-pals, Florence (Loretta Walsh), Molly (Johannah Newmarch), and Faith (Andrea Brooks).
Will When Calls The Heart Have New Romance Between Mei And Nathan?
New When Calls The Heart star Amanda Wong was asked about a romance between Mei Sou and Hope Valley’s heartbroken and eligible Mountie, Nathan Grant.
Already, in the sneak peek it looks like there are sparks between them. Moreover, Amanda shared that there is great chemistry on screen!
You know, the sneak peek was filmed only moments after Kevin McGarry and I met for the first time. Kevin is such a talented and charismatic guy, the chemistry translated so easily on screen. Now I don’t want to spoil the fun and give anything away, but it doesn’t end there.
