Why Michelle Young’s ‘Bachelorette’ Season Will Leave An Impact No Matter Who She Chose
Michelle Young will make history tonight on the Bachelorette season finale. Find out the lasting impact she will have on the franchise.
Who are Season 18’s final two suitors?
On Tuesday, December 21, Bachelor Nation viewers will see Michelle Young hand out her final rose. She’s whittled her suitors from 30 to just two. The last men standing are Nayte Olukoya and Brandon Jones.
Brandon is a 26-year-old traveling nurse recruiter from Portland, Oregon. He made waves on the previous episode by asking for a moment alone with Young before the elimination ceremony.
Nayte is a 27-year-old sales executive from Austin, Texas.
No matter who gets Michelle Young’s final rose, history will be made within the franchise. How?
Michelle Young’s season will have a lasting impact no matter who she chose
Viewers first met the fifth-grade teacher on Season 25 of The Bachelor. She made it to the final two but Matt James ultimately chose Rachael Kirkconnell. The two briefly split up after filming ended, but reunited and are still together.
Matt James is the first Black lead in Bachelor history. For the Bachelorette spin-off, Michelle Young is the third Black lead, following Rachel Lindsay (Season 13,) and Tayshia Adams (Season 16.)
His casting came amid calls for diversity on the dating competition. The network heeded those calls, resulting in a Bachelor Nation first.
For the first time in the show’s history, the Bachelorette winner will be a Black/biracial man. Lindsay and Adams both handed out their final roses to White men.
Furthermore, Rachel Lindsay went on to marry her final rose pick, Bryan Abasolo. Tayshia Adams recently ended her engagement to Season 16 contestant Zac Clark.
Some fans may wonder why the historical feat is important. As TV Line points out, representation matters.
Step back with Clayton Echard as The Bachelor?
One step forward and three steps back? That’s what fans are saying about ABC’s choice of casting Clayton Echard as Season 26’s Bachelor lead. One of Michelle Young’s cast-offs, Echard is a 28-year-old former football player from Columbia, Missouri.
However, Bachelor Nation alum Nick Viall recently expressed his apprehension with the network’s choice, noting that ABC previously promised diversity in casting.
Viewers can tune in to the historic Bachelorette finale on Tuesday, December 21, only on ABC. The episode will be available to stream the next day on Hulu. Despite previous concerns of pre-emption, the show will air as expected.
Clayton Echard’s journey to love on The Bachelor starts on Monday, January 3, 2022.
