Below Deck star Heather Chase apologized for using the n-word on the show. Monday night’s episode went from silly to serious. During the crew’s night out, Heather said the n-word not once, but three times. Deckhand Rayna Lindsey caught her saying the n-word on separate occasions.

She even warned Heather that she could get “canceled” if she’s not careful. However, that didn’t stop Heather from using it again later that night. While it was an alcohol-fueled night, it didn’t excuse the chief stew’s behavior. Shortly after the episode aired, Heather took to social media to apologize, but Rayna isn’t buying it.

Heather Chase apologized for the n-word controversy

Monday night’s episode showed Rayna and Heather having fun with one another. At one point, Rayna said the n-word. Heather reciprocated by using the same slur, even though she’s a white woman. Rayna can use the word if she wants to since the Black community reclaimed it over the years.

She repeatedly used it later on the boat. Rayna already warned Heather about using the word. However, Heather claims that she doesn’t recall saying the word.

Now, Heather has a different story. Upon witnessing Monday night’s episode, her memories came flooding back to her. She took to Instagram to issue an apology. She apologized “for the hurt my ignorance caused Rayna.” The Below Deck Season 9 star also claimed that she apologized to Rayna during the season, it was unfound in that episode.

“While I apologized Rayna throughout the season, I cannot express enough how remorseful I am,” Heather explained. “Over the past nine months since this episode was filmed, I have learned how my words and actions can affect others and I vow to do better in the future.”

Still, some people don’t buy her apology. Below Deck fans have been calling for her firing. Others don’t understand why production didn’t stop Heather when she said the n-word the first time around. They think she should’ve gotten fired on the spot and Rayna agrees.

Rayna took to Instagram Stories on the night of the troubling episode. During a live Q&A, she shared her thoughts about how the crew should’ve responded to the situation. Like most people, Rayna was disappointed with the way first officer Eddie Lucas brushed it off. She also thinks producers should’ve intervened.

One fan noted, “And producers just stood there,” to which Rayna responded, “The thing is they should’ve fired heather. It’s 2021.” She also called Heather’s apology “fake as hell.” Another fan asked her if she forgives Heather, to which responded, “I don’t.”

The Bravo star revealed that the two were never friends. But she still wishes Heather well. Both Rayna and fans have addressed Bravo’s silence on the matter. A repeat of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen follower after the episode’s airing. Fans can’t help but notice how different the network is handling this situation compared to similar incidents from the cast of Vanderpump Rules.

In June 2020, the network fired Stassi Schroeder, Kristen Doute, Max Boyens, and Brett Caprioni for their past racist remarks and actions. Bravo has not spoken out about Heather’s remarks. Do you think she should get fired? Sound off below in the comment section.

Below Deck airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.

  1. “Rayna can use the word if she wants to since the Black community reclaimed it over the years”. That’s BS it either derogatory or it is not. I have many older black friends who hates that work whoever says it. The community in as a whole is not considered. Black people have come to far to step back. Neither should have said it. Leaves that door WIDE open especially when drinking is involved.

    1. There are differing opinions about the use of the n-word in the black community Linda. Please leave it to us to handle that matter. You can, of course, do as you wish, but I highly recommend you not use that word.

  2. Don’t do as I say or as I do….. either the word is racist or it is not.
I think it is no matter what color the person saying the word happens to be…
what if they are more of a brown or light brownish-white color.. do they get a pass too or not?
    How ridiculous!
Rayna is just as “racist’ as Heather is for saying such an awful word period!
    Just don’t say it ever!

  3. I kept rewinding the episode, she only said it once following Rayna. I did not see that she said it 3 times. Either way… NEITHER of them should have said it.

    1. I agree. I also did not hear it 3 times. She only followed what Rayna said. I personally have heard through the season Rayna make racist statements about all the crew. Saying several times that’s some white shit. Though I also believe that since her and Jake kissed and he didn’t continue the play by play and then Jake kissed Fraiser and she has been jealous since. They both should have been let go.

      1. 👏👏 I was going to type a comment, but this states the ABS TRUTH & said everything I wanted to say.👍
NEITHER should have used the word, PERIOD!

    2. You are so right. I did not see where Heather said it 3 times. I am African-American and would not like no one saying the word no matter if you are black or white. Both should be fired!

  4. As Ms Chase “Chief stew “
says frequently to guests “ Totally unacceptable “ the same can be said of using racial slurs in any form, someone of her stature on the boat should be fired immediately, just as anyone else would be on any other program . THIS ISNT TO BE TOLERATED PERIOD !!

  5. We watch shows like Below Deck to escape the dark narrative we are exposed to daily in USA. Andy Cohens reality shows seem to purposely capitalize on the climate of the day. He will lose many viewers by exploiting people like Rayna and Heather. I o oneam tuning out of ALL of them. Better ways to support causes than watch the world according to Andy Cohen

  6. Rayna and Heather were both wrong for saying it. However, I do feel that Rayna is automatically biased towards authority as well. She has a bad attitude, and I love Wes for trying to come along side her and coach her out of that dark mental state. Rayna also makes racist statements frequently that she “only dates white skins” and that’s “some stupid white shit” – or recently, when someone said they liked the new guests, Rayna said “they’re black”. Seriously – when most of America is trying to calm down the racist attitudes that have persisted, Rayna is there fanning the flames. Why??? Be the change!

  7. Watching reruns of Below Deck with Heather and Rayna sad situation. I don’t understand why no one blamed the Captain! Once he found out what happened why didn’t he step in and resolve the situation. Captain needs to take some responsibility for not taking charge of his crew. Captain if you want to be in charge then take charge. Shame on you!
