‘Dateline’ Covers Peter Nygard And ‘Hell In Paradise’
Tonight’s December 10 Dateline covers Peter Nygard and what is described as “Hell in Paradise.” Keep reading to find out more about Nygard’s alleged heinous crimes.
Who Is Peter Nygard?
Peter Nygard is a Finnish-Canadian fashion executive. In 1967 he founded Nygard International, which made women’s apparel. However, things took a turn for the sinister when he was accused of sex trafficking, rape, and racketeering in 2020. The allegations led to the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) raiding his offices in New York City. Eventually, this led to charges based on the allegations. It also came to light that the trafficking charges involved minors.
Then, in October 2021, Peter Nygard was charged with multiple accounts of sexual assault and forcible confinement. Reports indicate that the fashion mogul was arrested for incidents from the mid-’80s until the mid-2000s. So, what happened? On tonight’s episode of Dateline, they interview the victims.
According to Starcasm, Peter Nygard would attract young women to his “Hell in Paradise” with extravagant parties. Furthermore, he wouldn’t invite men. The Nygard Cay property is described as 4.2 acres of Bahamian paradise. Decorations include faux Mayan temples and fire-breathing snake sculptures.
Why The FBI Raid?
So what led to the FBI raid? In 2010, 10 women that spent time at Nygard Cay joined forces and filed a federal lawsuit against Peter Nygard. The suit alleges sexual assault, among other things. For example, there are claims that Nygard paid off police officers not to file reports. Other claims indicate that Nygard would groom victims to lure other women to the island.
Shockingly, one of the women that came forward, Mirdel Carbuccia, tells Dateline recounts a time she believes she was drugged at one of Nygard’s parties. “I started getting fuzzy vision and really, really dizzy,” explains Carbuccia.
She goes on to say, “And I couldn’t feel my hands. I just hear him talk to me and talk to me, and then, all of a sudden, I just wasn’t functional anymore.”

What Now?
As of September 2021, Peter Nygard was awaiting extradition to the United States. However, in March, his doctor, Dr. Harvey B. Lee, tried to help Nygard’s case for bail. He claimed that being in jail at 79 years old was taking “a toll on his health.”
