Josh Duggar Trial: Here’s Everything You Should Know
Josh Duggar’s trial began on Tuesday, November 30. Since it began, a lot of news has come out about what’s going on. It might feel like too much to keep up with, so we are highlighting the most important parts of the trial so far.
For those who may not know, Josh was arrested this spring for possessing and receiving child pornography. Some of the content he allegedly downloaded included infants being abused. He has refused several plea deals, so his trial began last week. On Wednesday, December 8, the jury began deliberating. On Thursday, December 9, the jury resumed their deliberations.
If you’ve missed parts of the trial or haven’t been able to keep up, these are the most important details of the testimony and evidence you should know.
Evidence Presented During Josh Duggar’s Trial
The prosecution presented many important pieces of evidence. One of those is a timeline of text messages sent from Josh’s phone minutes before or after the explicit content was downloaded. Here’s a timeline we’ve created with the text message evidence.
May 11, 2019
- 5:47 p.m. Linux/Ubuntu was installed to create a partition on the computer.
- 5:59-5:59 p.m. Texts about a vehicle and photos were sent from Josh’s phone to Joshua Williams (an employee).
May 13, 2019
- 3:06 p.m. A photo was taken on Josh’s iPhone.
- TOR browser was downloaded, allowing access to the dark web.
May 14, 2019
- Several photos were taken at the car lot from 4:14 p.m., 4:20 p.m., 4:25 p.m., 6:01 p.m., 6:04 p.m., and 6:07 p.m.
- 4:49 p.m. A text message was sent from Josh’s phone. The message read “got stuck here.”
- 5:28 p.m. and 5:38 p.m. Two torrent files containing two explicit videos of 8-10-year-old girls were downloaded.
- 8:14 p.m. Photos on Josh’s phone reveal he was shopping at Lowes with his wife, Anna.
May 15, 2019
- 5:01 p.m. A text that reads, “I’m here” was sent from Josh’s phone.
- 5:08 p.m. A text that reads “will be here till 6” was sent from Josh’s phone.
- Child pornography videos and images were downloaded at 5.22pm, 5.25pm, 5.30pm, 5.32pm and 5:41pm.
During the trial, Witness James Fottrell, Director of Department of Justice for Child Exploitation, said, “Josh Duggar was at the car lot every time child pornography was downloaded.”
Bobye Holt Shares Important Testimony
One of the key points of the trial is that Josh’s molestations are being included. Longtime Duggar fans may recall that Josh admitted to molesting four of his sisters when he was a teenager. Though legal action was never taken, and it’s too late for him to be charged for these crimes now, they are a major piece of the puzzle.
The judge allowed for Josh’s molestations to be used in his child porn trial because they show he would have had a “motive” to download the disgusting content. So, a family friend, Bobye Holt, testified about Josh’s confession years ago.
Other testimonies from Josh’s acquaintences showed that he has an interest in computers and technology. Jim Holt, Bobye’s husband, said Josh had asked him about Linux partitions, which can divide the hard drive into two sides.
Defense Argues Remote Access During Josh Duggar’s Trial
Josh’s defense and expert forensic witness have argued that the content could have been accessed remotely, which would mean someone else was streaming them from his devices. They also claim that it was important to analyze the router.
Investigators took Josh’s devices but didn’t take the router. The prosecution explains that the router isn’t nearly as important, however.
The jury is now deliberating and will hopefully share the verdict soon.
