‘The Witcher’: New Season December 17th, Rumors Of What’s To Come
Netflix is at it again. Adaptations from the popular book series from Andrzej Sapkowski have already seen success. The video games have grown in popularity with each release, but Netflix’s take on the property remains more faithful to the source material. Henry Cavil is set to return on December 17th to explore the dark and magical world. There is no lack of excitement in the fan communities buzzing about the Witcher’s return. However, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t critics of some of the choices surrounding the show.
Toss a coin to your Witcher
Fans who have only played the game before the Netflix series may notice some differences. Most obvious is the character Jaskier. Not only has his name been returned from “Dandelion” but he plays a much more obvious role. In Season 1 he popularized the song “Toss a Coin to Your Witcher”, which is just as catchy in every language.
Some of the questionable choices made by the Netflix showrunners include the armor selection for the Nilfgaardians and the casting for Triss Merigold. It does seem Netflix has been listening. Some of the fans’ dislikes will be changed for Season 2 of The Witcher.
The Witcher girl
Every fantasy story needs a hero. Geralt of Rivia certainly plays the role in the long run. He is a monster slayer, trained from a young age, after all. Yet, in the grim continent that The Witcher takes place in he must be a little rough around the edges. When an ancient law is invoked by Geralt as payment for his services he unwittingly becomes a surrogate father to a princess. Cirilla is a powerful princess of prophecy but before the grander myth and legend can come true, she is trained as a witcher. Viewers can look forward to this in the coming release.
Magic, monsters, and more
Despite some egregious wardrobe violations, little creative license has been given outside of the original stories so far. Season 2 promises more exciting monsters and an expanded look on The Witcher himself. Much like Season 1, it does seem that we will be getting a mix of some of the book stories. Sapkowski authored two short story compilations before the main plot. The show has done an excellent job of reviewing these fan favorites while letting the major happenings move forward.
Rumors of a future spinoff featuring another DC actor, Jason Mamoma, have also been circulating. The rumor is that he will be playing an origin story. The plot suggests he will take up the mantle of the first-ever witcher in a tail long before the adventures of Geralt, Yennifer, and Ciri. Jason Mamoa may have confirmed this with his Instagram story late last year. Henry Cavil and Jason Mamoma reuniting in the same fandom is exciting, to say the least.
