Former Counting On star Jessa Seewald shared a story about her son, Spurgeon, 6, but now she’s backtracking after receiving negative comments about it. Read on to see exactly what we know about the situation and what happened.

As we’ve reported before, Jessa often shares photos and videos of her kids. She also shares the cute and hilarious things they say. She refers to these series as #SayingsOfSpurgeon or #SayingsOfHenry. She hasn’t shared quotes from her other two children, Ivy, 2, and Fern, 4 months yet but will in the future.

Recently, she posted a new quote from Spurgeon, but it didn’t go over the way she hoped it would. So, she decided to edit the post but then got caught. Upon posting this, she got some backlash because fans thought Spurgeon’s statement was “rude.”

Her original Facebook post read:

“We were eating out as a family, and after paying the bill, the waitress came to clear a few plates. ‘Thank you,’ she said, ‘We appreciate you!’ Spurgeon thought about that remark for a second and then exclaimed excitedly, ‘Yeah, they appreciate us because we give them money!’ Ben and I smiled cordially but didn’t respond to his observation, so Spurgeon thought he should say it again with a bit more emphasis, ‘They appreciate us because we give them MONEY!!’ #SayingsOfSpurgeon #SeewaldKidsSay”

Jessa Seewald edits the post after receiving backlash.

Below, you can see the original post first and the edited version. Jessa changed the ending, revealing that they had a conversation with Spurgeon about the waitress enjoying serving others. Interestingly, she only shared that part of the story after fans shared their thoughts about what her son said.

In the comments section of her post, fans are asking why she edited the post. Others are calling the original post “rude.” One fan is hopeful that Jessa explained the whole situation to Spurgeon and made sure he understood why waiters and waitresses are paid.

There are only a handful of comments about Jessa editing the post, so it’s possible that she is deleting some of them.

  1. Spurgeon is a highly
intelligent young man. His statement is spot on. It
was not rude! People work to make money, so
he figured she appreciated them because they
were helping her to make money!
