Kojima Productions Finally Launches TV, Film, and Music Studio

Kojima Productions is expanding its reach. Hideo Kojima leans into cinematics in his games. The new venture for Kojima Productions will likely offer fans something new. Kojima Productions was founded in 2005 under another game studio Konami. It was a subsidiary of them for ten years until 2015. In 2015 it moved to more independent development after a parting of ways with Konami. Will the new division hold up?

Evidence shows games make good TV

Games like the Metal Gear series have always captured the attention of the players. Engaging stories and flashy cut scenes are expected when playing these games. The latest from Kojima, Death Stranding, has been discussed at some length among its fans for its visual cut-away frequency. Kojima’s Twitter bio states “Game Creator: 70% of my body is made of movies.” Video games are for storytelling for Kojima. Fans think this is a good thing.

More evidence from the creator was P.T. This stood for “Playable Trailer” and was released under a fake studio name. It featured a seemingly endless hallway where the player would walk around facing new horror at every turn. Though in first-person, it offered a story-driven narrative with little gameplay.  the full game was never released. The game was a Silent Hill title. Although, it was never released. This is due to the Konami/Kojima split. The protagonist, played by actor Norman Reedus, went on to play a lead role in Death Stranding. Norman Reedus has a long history of exciting roles like in The Walking Dead. He shows his range in everything he is in.

Do good relationships mean good content?

Despite Kojima’s reformation as an independent studio, relationships have remained strong over the years. PlayStation veteran Riley Russell will be joining the Kojima team as the lead for the new studio. He can boast a 28-year long history with PlayStation. PlayStation has a long history with Hideo Kojima himself as well as the development studio. Yoshiko Fukuda offers excitement telling Gl.biz “Finding new ways to entertain, engage and offer value to our fans is essential in a fast-moving, ever-changing storytelling world. Our new division will take the studio into even more areas that present our creative narratives beyond video games and to open up ways for our fans to communicate and immerse themselves in these spaces.”

Kojima Productions: Action, Horror, and more

Storytelling in video games may not be new to Kojima Productions but TV and film certainly are. Kojima says Though Russell says the new division will be working with talent from TV, film, and music we don’t know what to expect in the coming months. Confidence is high from fans because of the wide range of stories in the past. Kojima Productions embracing TV should be an exciting thing for long-time fans.
