Jenna Johnson On Participating In This Milestone ‘DWTS’ Season
Dancing With The Stars Season 30 is definitely one for the history books. It’s the 30th season of an amazing, award-winning show. But it’s also the first season to feature a couple of the same gender. Pro dancer Jenna Johnson and pop star JoJo Siwa definitely have a shot at the Mirrorball Trophy as we head into the finale tonight. And for Jenna, this has truly been a journey to remember.
Jenna Johnson feels honored to be part of this big movement in DWTS history
It’s not at all uncommon to see couples of the same gender competing in professional competitions. But this is the first time it’s ever been done on Dancing With The Stars. But representation is incredibly important and many of the show’s castmates really wanted to make it happen.
“Obviously, I would love to walk away with the trophy for myself and JoJo, but it would mean so much more because it would be a trophy for so many people,” Jenna told Good Morning America in an email. “It would represent that being different is scary, but oh so worth it.”
The 27-year-old dancer went on to say that she was really nervous before the season started. Everyone had such high expectations for her and she was worried about letting them down.
“And now looking back, this has been one of the most fulfilling, scary and life-changing moments I’ve ever had on the show. I’m so grateful I said yes to dancing with a female, and I’m so grateful it was JoJo. She has made this experience absolutely magical.”
It’s definitely been a learning and growing experience for both women
It’s clear that JoJo Siwa and Jenna Johnson formed a life-long friendship over the course of the season. The two women manage to come in each week stronger than the week before and absolutely nail each routine.
“It’s crazy that someone so much younger than you can teach you more than you can teach them,” Jenna continued in the email. “I think the most powerful thing I have learned from her is to have joy every day. She treats every moment like it’s the best one yet, and she’s present and doesn’t take one second for granted. That has been something I needed to learn and grow at.”
JoJo Siwa may only be 18-years-old, but she’s had quite a career so far. Most people remember her from her start on Dance Moms. From there, she launched a successful musical career and became a pop icon for children everywhere. Now, she hopes to use Dancing With The Stars to transition into more grown-up roles.
