Will Derek Hough Ever Change Up His Role On ‘Dancing With The Stars?’

It’s hard to think about Dancing With The Stars without thinking about six-time Mirrorball Trophy winner Derek Hough. But it’s been quite some time since Derek appeared as a pro dancer on the show.

As we wrap up Season 30, the Utah dancer is also finished up his second season behind the judges’ table. Bur would he ever consider returning to the dance floor?

Derek Hough loves being part of DWTS, but would he ever shift roles?

Most DWTS fans know that Derk Hough holds the record for the most Mirrorball Trophy wins as a pro dancer. Needless to say, he’s quite accomplished.

Since he left DWTS, he’s gone on to do other shows like World Of Dance and even currently has a Las Vegas residency. He clearly enjoys his time as a judge, but what about competing? The 36-year-old recently opened up to Parade about the possibility.

And as it turns out, he’s pretty okay with the way things are right now.

“I’m OK,” Derek told the publication. “I feel I’m very lucky right now where I can get the best of both worlds. I get to have those performances and those moments to dance, but I’m also very happy to be like, ‘Alright. Show me what you guys were working on all week.’”

He really feels like he’s in his element when he gets to mentor the contestants.

“I would love to just have an hour with each one of the celebrities,” Derek continued. “I would love that because I have so much more to share and to give and I feel like I could add some value to their experience in the process. So, I would love to have like 30 minutes to an hour with them and just give a little spiel and, hopefully, add some value to them.”

Don’t expect to see him as a pro dancer again anytime soon, but hopefully he will come back to judge again in Season 31.

The former pro dancer says being a judge has been a positive experience

In previous interviews, Derek Hough mentioned that he has a bit of an issue with the elimination processes this year. Four judges means that 2/2 splits can happen and he doesn’t really love the way they play out.

But even so, he adds that working with Len Goodman has been a positive experience so far.

“It’s been really good,” the newest judge told Parade. “The judging, when I look back at it, it’s been a lot of agreement. I was actually expecting a lot more disagreement with Len because I’m a little bit more open to interpretation and he’s a little more about the rulebook, but we’ve pretty much been on the same page.”

Keep watching DWTS to see what’s coming up next. We will be here to keep you filled in.
