This isn’t the first time that we’ve heard rumors of DWTS contestants having contracts to stay on the show. Most recently, we heard rumors that current contestant Olivia Jade had a three-week contract.

Now, a contestant from last season reveals they had a five-week contract to stay on the dance show. What exactly did that involve?

Does DWTS offer contracts to contestants for them to stay on the show?

Dancing With The Stars fans enjoy watching the show week after week. We’re now in the middle of Season 30 and fans still love the show. But there could be a few sinister secrets going behind closed doors?

DWTS Season 29 contestant Anne Heche recently made a guest appearance on Jason Tartick’s podcast “Trading Secrets.” According to Heavy, the conversation turned to contract issues. A Reddit thread believes that in the podcast, Anne refers to a contract to keep her on the show for five weeks. But if you watched last season, you know that Anne Heche didn’t make it that far. She and her partner Keo Motsepe finished in 13th place out of 15 couples.

“Anne Heche was on Jason Tartick’s podcast this week and she said she had a 5 week contract with DWTS. She said she stormed off set and refused to do press after her elimination because it was not only the night she shared her story but she also says her contract was changed and she lost out on thousands of dollars that her original 5 week contract promised. What do you guys think about this? Her publicist is on the podcast with her,” the thread begins. Reddit users voice opinions in the comments.

Many don’t believe that this sort of contract would be legal and that she simply misunderstood her contract.

Heavy writes, “It’s important to note that competition shows that rely on votes for viewers cannot be manipulated legally when it comes to those votes, so in all likelihood, contracts for contestants to be “safe” from elimination would have to come down to who the judges choose to save from the bottom two and their scoring rather than the number of votes.”

Things may not necessarily be what they appear

The Heavy article goes on to add that Anne Heche’s five-week contract most likely referred to the dollar amount she was supposed to make per episode. It didn’t necessarily guarantee that she would stay in the competition for five weeks. As noted above, that’s not legal.

“What happened the night of Dancing With The Stars, if I had gone onto another dance, I would have made thousands more dollars,” Anne revealed on the podcast. “And what they did was stop the original contract, which was five weeks, and they fired me before I could make more money.”

Anne’s words make it a little tough to understand, but the consensus seems to be that the five-week contract did indeed refer to the amount of money made per episode. Not that she would be saved from elimination for the first five weeks. But either way, anyone leaving the show and losing out on money might be a little peeved.

If you recall, Anne Heche famously stormed off after she and Keo were eliminated. DWTS contestants generally stick around to do interviews with the press, but she wasn’t having any of that.

What do you think of all this? Is there something darker afoot, or is this just another internet rumor? Let us know what you think in the comments.
