Netflix Series ‘Uncoupled’: Neil Patrick Harris Will Lead, Other Cast

Neil Patrick Harris is joining the Netflix Uncoupled cast.

It was recently reported that Netflix and Darren Star were uniting for a new romantic comedy series, Uncoupled. At that stage, we didn’t know the cast or production details, but now we have information for you.

Darren Star originally partnered with Netflix for the series Emily in Paris, but they are reuniting for a new project. The romantic comedy series stars Neil Patrick Harris as Michael, a gay man whose 17-year marriage falls apart when his husband leaves him.

The co-creator of Uncoupled is Emmy-award winner, Jeffrey Richman, known for his work on Frasier and Modern Family. Meanwhile, Star is also an Emmy winner for the hugely popular comedy, S*x and The City.

Both co-creators are thrilled to be a part of Uncoupled for Netflix as it is important to them on a personal level. They said they couldn’t hope for a more perfect home for the rom-com than Netflix. “A romantic comedy with a gay leading man; it is a passion project for us that feels both personal and universal.”

What is the plot for the new series?

Uncoupled, which will run for eight episodes, centers on Michael, a man in his mid-40s living in New York City. He thought his life was perfect until suddenly his husband of 17 years blindsided him by walking out the door.

Overnight, Michael is forced to confront two nightmares. One is losing the person he thought was his soulmate, while the other is suddenly finding himself a single gay man in his mid-40s in New York City.

Who is the cast of Uncoupled on Netflix?

In early August it was revealed that Neil Patrick Harris (A Series of Unfortunate Events) will play the lead role of Michael. In the meantime, a number of other cast members were announced in late October. Michael’s husband and a successful businessman, Colin McKenna, is played by Tuc Watkins (The Mummy).

The role of Claire Lewis, an elegant, wealthy, avid art collector, is played by Marcia Gay Harden (Mystic River). She likely relates well to Michael as she is currently divorcing her husband. Suzanne Prentiss, Michael’s business partner, and friend, is played by Tisha Campbell (Martin). Her character is described as a high-powered real estate agent.

Billy Jackson, celebrity TV weatherman and one of Michael’s closest friends, is played by Emerson Brooks (Captain America: The Winter Soldier). Meanwhile, Brooks Ashmanskas (Julie & Julia) plays Stanley James, an art dealer and another of Michael’s closest friends.

When can we expect to see the new rom-com series?

Filming of Uncoupled is set to start on November 18 and takes place primarily in New York City. As for the release date for the Netflix series, this is currently unknown. However, as per What’s on Netflix, Uncoupled is likely to start streaming on Netflix at some stage in 2022.
