Karina Smirnoff Wants To Return To ‘DWTS’ — But In What Role?
It’s always nice to see familiar faces on Dancing With The Stars. Former pro dancer Karina Smirnoff recently revealed she really would like to return to the competition. But there’s one specific role she’s after. Keep reading to find out more!
Karina Smirnoff would consider returning to DWTS if the conditions were right
Right now, Karina Smirnoff is working on her acting abilities. She plays a Tango dancer in Tango Shalom. It follows Karina’s character who loses her dance partner, who has to get a little help from a rabbi to enter a dance competition. It sounds a little unconventional, but definitely original.
But what’s next for the veteran dancer?
In an interview with Parade, Karina discussed her acting gigs and all the hard work that went into Tango Shalom. But of course, the conversation eventually turned to Dancing With The Stars. The publication wanted to know what Karina thought of Derek Hough as the newest judge.
“I think he’s fantastic as a judge,” Karina happily replied. “He was fantastic on World of Dance with Jennifer Lopez. He did a fantastic job there. I would definitely enjoy judging. I don’t know if I would go back as a dancer. … But I think Derek is as fantastic as a judge as he was amazing as a dancer.”
On the webpage, Parade added that Carrie Ann Inaba currently has no public plans to leave the show. However, she struggles with health conditions, which could make it difficult for her to stay. She also permanently stepped away from her position on The Talk this year due to health struggles.

The former Dancing With The Stars pro enjoys motherhood
We really haven’t heard much from Karina Smirnoff in recent years. She had a baby last year and so far is keeping the father’s identity a secret.
Karina was previously engaged to DWTS bad boy, Maksim Chmerkovskiy. But he’s now married to Peta Murgatroyd and they have a son of their own. It’s probably safe to say he isn’t the father.
“I’m super excited to start a new chapter in my life,” Karina told PEOPLE when she confirmed her pregnancy back in 2019. “I’ve always wanted to be a mom. I have so many emotions that I’m going through.”
“I’m nervous, excited, over-the-moon happy and overwhelmed,” she continued. “Everyone has been so great, gracious and has given me so much information. I’m just trying to keep up!”
