Captain Mark Howard was the captain in the Season 1 of Below Deck Med. The series aired back in 2016. Bravo shared their condolences on their Instagram earlier today (Oct. 29). In the post, they share that “he will always be remembered for his many contributions and mentorship and will forever remain part of the Bravo family.”
According to a TMZ exclusive, they’ve acquired the police report from the Fernandina Beach Police Department. Sadly, Captain Mark Howard’s wife, Susan, found him dead. Susan reports she was out of town at a dog show from October 22-27.
Gutwrenchingly, when she got home, she found her husband dead in their Florida home.
TMZ details that Captain Mark Howard’s wife found him upstairs. He was covered in boxes that presumably fell. The captain’s body was lying against a shelf. Details around the case are uncertain. There were “blood droplets on the floor and blood on the side of his face.” However, the news outlet reports that it “was not clear if he had suffered any trauma.” There is speculation that Howard had died several days before he was found.
Captain Mark Howard was an esteemed leader and mentor for 13 episodes of Below Deck Med Season 1. Fans may remember him for his “customer is always right” attitude and interacting with his crew members.

Below Deck Med crew members take to social media to share their condolences. Tiffany Copeland tweets, “You were a joy to be around,” and shares photos of herself and the captain.

US Magazine reports that Hannah Ferrier, former chief stew, was still in contact with her former boss. She shares, “Captain Mark and I, we send a message maybe once a year, just to touch base.”
Ferrier also says, “I really like him.”
