California Resident Vows To Help Solve The Kristin Smart Case

Dateline shares a clip on Twitter with a preview of this week’s episode. In 1996, 19-year-old college student Kristin Smart went missing. Since then, her missing person billboard has been on the side of California’s Highway 1.

The 25-year-old case was cold. However, Chris Lambert does something to change that. He created a podcast called Your Own Backyard. It ultimately results in what sources call “the biggest break in this case.”

In interviews, Lambert explains that he grew up just 15 minutes away from the billboard. However, his connection to Kristin is closer than that. In an interview with Fox40, Lambert explains.

When I realized I had acquaintances who had gone to high school with Paul Flores and gone to parties with Paul Flores and had had bad experiences with him, and then they started connecting me. ‘I’ll tell you five other people you should ask about this.'”

Who Is The Main Suspect

Paul Flores is set to stand trial for the 1996 disappearance of Kristin Smart, reports the Los Angeles TimesAllegedly, Flores is the last person to see Smart alive on May 25, 1996. They both went to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

In the early hours of May 25, 1996, two students started walking Kristin back to her dorm after a party. Dateline reports that it was about a 10-minute walk. Paul Flores offered to help Kristin the rest of the way to her dorm. Sadly, that was the last time anyone saw her.

A witness reported that Flores told them that he was “done playing with her” and “put her underneath [his] ramp.” This information was told to lead investigators in 2019.

What Is The Father/Sons Alleged Involvement

While Kristin Smart’s body was never found, she was legally declared dead in 2002. One theory about her disappearance is that Paul Flores’ father, Ruben helped his son conceal the body. The theory alleges that Ruben hid the body below a deck at his home in Arroyo Grande. Consequently, Ruben Flores is being tried for accessory to murder.

Another witness tells a haunting story about the Flores’ backyard. She explains that one of the men told her to stay away from the avocado trees. Later, a renter tells a similar story.

As part of the investigation, a geologist testifies that there was a hole in the ground on the property that was a “good indication of a human burial site and that its contents were later removed.” Additionally, fibers consistent with the clothes Smart was last seen wearing were recovered.
