Did Josh Duggar Accept The Plea Deal?
In his current child pornography scandal, Josh Duggar had the opportunity to accept a plea deal. He previously had a chance to accept a plea deal prior to being arrested, however, he didn’t accept that one. In exchange for accepting either deal, he would receive a shorter sentence. As we’ve reported, the 19 Kids & Counting star is facing decades in prison, plus up to $500,000 in fines.
For those who may not know, the former TLC star was arrested by the feds in April for receiving and possessing child pornography. He’s been living with a guardian since then as he awaits his November 30 trial.
He was sent to live with Maria LaCount Reber, who are friends of the Duggars. They have no children, making them suitable guardians. While Josh lives with the Rebers, he must follow guidelines established by the judge. He’s allowed to see his own children with his wife Anna Duggar’s supervision, but he cannot be around other minors, due to the nature of the charges. He cannot access the internet, must wear a GPS tracking device, and cannot go anywhere that minors are present. You can see all of his conditions here.
Until this point, Josh has claimed he’s innocent. His family members reportedly believe this as well. Sources have said that Jim Bob Duggar, Josh’s father, hopes to sweep this scandal under the rug. Josh’s wife Anna was seen by his side at his motion hearing last month. Sources claim she’s been spending a lot of time with Josh at his guardians’ home.
Josh Duggar Plea Deal Details
Josh had until Monday, October 18 to decide whether he wanted to accept the plea deal. This would mean he changes his plea because he has previously pled not guilty at his bond hearing earlier this year.
If he decides to change his plea, it would need to be signed and sent to the judge so a change of plea hearing could be scheduled. It’s been speculated that if Josh would accept the plea deal, he would spend just 10 years behind bars. However, it’s unclear exactly what the sentencing would actually look like.
Plea Deal Results Revealed
According to an exclusive report from The Sun, no change of plea has been filed by Josh as of Tuesday, October 19. It’s not too late for Josh to plead guilty, however, he can no longer receive the benefits of a plea deal. In this case, if he pleads guilty before his November 30 trial, he will not necessarily receive a shorter sentence.
