Rachael Kirkconnell Marks One-Year Since She Met Matt James On ‘The Bachelor’
Rachael Kirkconnell is celebrating a milestone in her relationship with Matt James. It was one year ago this weekend that filming started on Season 25 of The Bachelor. See Rachael’s video honoring the occasion.

Season 25 was supposed to be a historic season of The Bachelor. In 2020, the network named Matt James as the first Black Bachelor in franchise history. Expectations were high when the season kicked off in January of 2021.
However, things quickly went off the rails as the drama between the women in the house took center stage. Things got worse when the off-screen drama became a bigger topic of conversation than what was happening on-screen.
In early February, photos surfaced on social media of Rachael Kirkconnell attending an antebellum party in college in 2018. The photos quickly went viral, causing long-time Bachelor Nation host Chris Harrison to speak up in Rachael’s defense.

However, his attempt at quelling the controversy only made it a bigger story due to his interview with former Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay.
In the aftermath of the interview, Chris Harrison took a step back from hosting before ultimately leaving the franchise. The network just named a new permanent host, almost six months after Harrison’s departure.
The fallout also affected Rachael and Matt’s relationship. Moment after viewers saw Kirkconnell accept the final rose, the After the Final Rose aired. There it was revealed that the couple had split up amid the scandal.
However, they were soon officially back together, making fans wonder if they ever split at all.
Takes on supportive girlfriend role
Despite the rocky start of their relationship, it seems Matt James and Rachael Kirkconnell are back on solid ground. The NYC native is temporarily living in Los Angeles with his girlfriend by his side. The former Bachelor is competing on Season 30 of Dancing With The Stars.
Viewers can spot Rachael in the audience cheering her man on each week. So far, Matt James has survived three weeks on the show. But the competition hits up this week with TWO nights of dances for Disney Week.

Matt James and Rachael Kirkconnell apparently have more to celebrate than his dancing skills. Kirkconnell took to her Instagram Stories over the holiday weekend to reveal that she first met James one year ago.
While The Bachelor didn’t premiere until January, filming began months earlier. Rachael shared a silly video that shows off her connection with Matt.

People who follow Matt or Rachael on Instagram may be wondering if he is starting to get baby fever. He is often spotted playing with his DWTS partner Lindsay Arnold’s daughter Sage. The tyke will soon turn one-year-old and already has Matt James wrapped around her finger.
While the twosome enjoys spending time with the baby, that’s not the next step in their relationship, as Matt James told Us Weekly.
