‘Law & Order: SVU’ Season 23 Premiere: Two Key Cast Members Exit
Law and Order: SVU is getting a cast shake-up ahead of Season 23. Two characters are leaving the canvas. Is either of the exits your favorite characters? Keep reading to find out all the details of the shocking cast cuts.
Stabler Returns to Law and Order: SVU Universe in Season 22
Law and Order: SVU saw the return of Christopher Meloni as Detective Elliot Stabler. He returned to attend a special ceremony for his former partner, Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay.) Of course, he never made it to the ceremony, as a car bomb exploded as he was leaving.
Stabler’s wife Kathy (Isabel Gillies) ultimately perished in the car bomb. The event kicked off a new Law and Order: Organized Crime spin-off starring Meloni. The Practice alum Dylan McDermott co-stars as Stabler’s rival, mom boss Richard Wheatley.
The spin-off will return for Season 2. Click here to read more about what to expect in the show’s sophomore season. Which of the Season 22 stars won’t be returning to SVU?
New Detective Not Returning to NYPD
Hope you didn’t get attached to recently promoted Detective Kat Tamin. TV Line reports that actress Jamie Gray Hyder is out after two seasons. Kat joined the NYPD during Season 21, as Hyder appeared on a recurring basis. The actress was promoted to series regular ahead of Season 22.
However, the powers-that-be did not renew Hyder’s contract for another season. Jamie Gray Hyder broke boundaries in her short time on Law and Order: SVU. Kat Tamin was the first openly bisexual officer in the history of the show.
It’s unclear if the show plans to kill Kat off or just have her leave the NYPD.
Law and Order: SVU Cuts Second Newcomer
Jamie Gray Hyder isn’t the only Law and Order cast member to get walking papers. The NYPD will have to find a new deputy chief because Demore Barnes won’t be returning as Christian Garland.
Like Hyder, Barnes joined SVU as a recurring character for Season 21. He was also upgraded to season regular for Season 22.
Law and Order: SVU is now the longest-running live action show of all-time. The network already renewed it for Season 24, as well.
Fans won’t have to wait for the premiere of the two Law and Order shows. The new seasons of both SVU and Organized Crime premiere on Thursday, September 23. Viewers will get a two-hour premiere of SVU, followed by one hour of Organized Crime.
